Beam Up – “Frankie/Helden” (45seven)

457a

This guy we’ve already introduced to you in our reviews (http://dubmassive.org/6393/beam-up-astronomy-dubhanabi-dub-7), we appreciate him for the approach to music production, inspired by 70s dub classics. On his newest release, thanks to 45seven label, he presents us two tracks – “Frankie” and “Helden”, in which he shows what is true dub for him. Echoes, reverbs, flying percussions, snippets of melodies in sound space – the essence of dub in original style!

Archetype Records presents Violinbwoy – “Shiver Shashamane”

Archetype Records presents Violinbwoy – “Shiver Shashamane”

10464228_320296294800729_224578576440448909_nArchetype Records from France is another relatively new label in a dub world and they has released 7” with our countryman Violinbowy, containing heavyweight dubwise at its best. The A side with “Shiver Shashamane” is a original riddim with resonating bass, accompanied by violin melody. The track is 4 minutes long with a lot of tasteful themes. The B side is a dub version, where violin is on the background but when it comes, goose bumps appears on the whole body. The attention is also attracted by the cover and clip – animation created strictly for this tune, perfectly matched with music. “Must have” release for all maniacs of heavyweight dub!

Ps. Also check out the first release from Archetype – “Nemesis” by Haspra, also heavy tune which breaks Babylon walls!

Johnny Clarke / Roots Defender – “Come let we gather” (7”)

Johnny Clarke / Roots Defender – “Come let we gather” (7”)

johnny-clarke

Bababoom Hi Fi label presents us a new 7” with roots reggae legend Johnny Clarke, who meets Roots Defender Band in Satta Studio. This Italian crew plays i.a. with Micheal Prophet or Earl 16. “Come let we gather” is a nice roots&culture with lovely voice of Johnny Clarke and a brilliant, rootical riddim played by Satta (drums), Basque Dub Foundation (bass), Nobke (keys) and Draxt (guitar). The track was mixed and mastered by Jamtone and Pilah. Of course the flip side contains dub version, where the musicians prove that they know what dubwise is.

Kibir La Amlak & Maija – “Restoreth My Soul” (7”)

Kibir La Amlak & Maija – “Restoreth My Soul” (7”)

KLA007Kibir La Amlak has launched a new label KLA Dub Box, focused on heavy, dubwise, raw mixes prepared especially for sound system playing. Presented 7” has been already tested by sounds like Iration Steppas and gained a respect from many listeners. In “Restoreth My Soul” we have beautiful flute melody played by Maija, what – in conjunction with strong bass – creates a deep, mystical atmosphere. JT’s dub version is a confirmation of potential residing in Kibir La Amlak’s sounds.

100% sound system killer without a doubt!

The powerful return of Alpha&Omega to ZamZam Sounds (7”)

The powerful return of Alpha&Omega to ZamZam Sounds (7”)

zamzam23_A&O_jacket_label copyAnother tune from Alpha&Omega for ZamZam Sounds is a powerful, massive, earthshaking riddim vocally supported by don Dillinger’s DJing and Don Goliath’s warm voice in refrains. This is the essence of Alpha&Omega’s roller-style, with magic melodica and organ melodies, high speed hi-hats, spatial synths and bass&drums line crushing your bones.

This blazing tune will be available in late October.

Legendary musicians on 7” – “All rudies in jail” – Jamaican All Stars / Cubiculo Records

Legendary musicians on 7” – “All rudies in jail” – Jamaican All Stars / Cubiculo Records

CR7003_FB_COVERCubiculo Records is a label that surprises me every release (for example here http://dubmassive.org/8178/cubiculo-records-crucial-stepper-ep) and it’s the same this time. On their last production they showed that they are not going to focus only on digital style and the newest 7″ is a mixture of roots, rocksteady, amazing vocals and toasting. Everything in favour of super crew Jamaican All Stars, which consists of Skuly Simms, Vin Gordon, Laraque, Bunny Robinson, BB. Bassy, Junior Wilson, Trevor Thomson, Ken G – a pleiad of living reggae legends. Those musicians played i.a. for The Upsetters, The Heptones, The Aggrovators or Roots Radics and hey set the band after the premiere of “Portraits Of Jamaican Music” film thanks to Winward Records.
