Kanka – “Watch Your Step”

Kanka – “Watch Your Step”

Kanka-WatchYourStep-VisuelHDbA long awaited day by me has come – my speakers play the new Kanka album. Yes, it’s been almost 3 years Since the last release, so the appetite is huge. The artist serves us 12 heavy, consistent compositions with 3 amazing vocalists. The album is opened by „Venus Dub” – here I felt like I have actually had a journey to this planet, but we quickly get back to the earth thanks to Echo Ranks, who’s in very good shape. He sings about troubles and worries of each of us. That tune is from cycle „I have heard it before” In the lyric layer, but musically Kanka crushes me hard, especially with the bassline. The next tune doesn’t slow down – „Ghost Dub” reminded me of killer „Scratchy”, in „London” the winds nicely fit into the tough, dark dub close to the style of Iration Steppas. „Straight Dub” and „37” are steppers that make you skank hard. That’s how we get to the next track with El Fata as a guest. I have a fondness for him and his dub vocals, and his chat is just briliant. Thereafter „Rainbow Dub” and again heavenly winds which I love in reggae and dub – i deliquesce in such sounds to get strength and carry the burden of every-day reality. Additionaly, hearing crowning ideally integrated like Kanka did charges me fully. That album is merciless for the listener – in a good way of course – and it’s caused by the last two tunes: „Stepperstyle” again with Echo Ranks. It shows that the vocalists gets back to shape because (in my opinion) he lost it in few last tunes. Finally, we have „We love bass” – the title itself says a lot – Kanka loves bass and he knows how to use it well. It won’t be an overstatement if I say that it’s the best album of that French warrior!

Radikal Guru – “Subconscious” (CD/LP)

Radikal Guru – “Subconscious” (CD/LP)

artworks-000061969838-gyompk-t500x500Countdown is over, we don’t have to wait anymore for second Radikal Guru’s longplay intriguingly called “Subconscious”!!! Yes, it has been two years since the release of the “Rootstepa”, although the artist pleases us with his music pretty often – at least once a year he releases a single or makes a remix for somebody else. However, the full album attracts even more, and by the way creates concerns about the direction it is going to head to and if it’s going to be as good as the previous one. All of the doubts have been resolved. Right after the first few bars “Subconscious” (the opening tune “Earthwalker”) shows that Radikal is in a good shape. And so, thirsty of low frequencies, I get 10 tough tunes – three with promising guests: YT, Danman, Echo Ranks – only their names send shivers up my back, and the mentioned two of them are considered by me as leading sound system microphone warriors. About the single – “warning” with Echo Ranks you could have already read on our website. Back then I thought that a single like that raises the bar high for the whole album, but what I have heard on “Subconscious” broke me out of my shoes. YT in tune named “Stay Calm” showed his own style and fitted perfectly to the calm rhythm. Danman in “Know Yourself” presented a lyric that I have already heard on an Iration Steppas party and when I heard it again on the album i couldn’t pick myself up for the next few minutes. One would say – only 3 vocal tunes per 10 in total – but 3 vocalists of high class like that is a lot. Radikal deserves an applause for urging them to join his album (although he probably didn’t have to trouble too much, as he is a well known producer on the dub scene). As for the rest of the tracks – eponymous “Subconscious” deserves attention, it reveals Radikal’s fascination of jungle, what doesn’t disturb and even spices the whole thing up – just like in “Wicked Dub” where we can hear the typical sound that could also be heard in productions by Mark Iration (so nice!). “Indra” takes us into India, the next musical fascination of the hero of that review; “Different dub” put me in a trance; “Spaced out” and “Outernational” are tunes in Radikal’s typical style. The whole album is full of bass, although it could be not enough for dubstep fans, but for me it’s just perfect – the direction he went to is ideal for me, more into dub and with a huge respect to the roots. Ladies and gentlemen – I recommend you to buy the new album of our national dub pride!

Radikal Guru – “Warning”

Radikal Guru – “Warning”

artwork

Radikal Guru and Moonshine Recordings present us “Warning” – the first single from forthcoming Radikal’s album titled “Subconscious”, which is to be released in the November. It contains remixes from Violinbwoy and Dubkasm, what shows us, that Poland has strong representatives on the dub scene. It’s also good to hear the information about Radikal’s second album – judging from the single there will be a lot of good stuff on it.

Back to the release – you can hear the voice of Echo Ranks, who feels the production in 100%. As of the remixes: Violinbwoy, specialized in steppers, gets better all the time and already presents a high level. Dubkasm made a typical dubwise with a bunch of reverbs and echoes in a meditative style. There is nothing else to do than buy the single and wait for another Radikal’s miracles, I am already counting down.

Dubowy powrót Molary i Radikal Dub Kolektiv

Dubowy powrót Molary i Radikal Dub Kolektiv

Sorry, this entry is only available in Polish. For the sake of viewer convenience, the content is shown below in the alternative language. You may click the link to switch the active language.

The Knights of the Occasional Table, Femi Kuti, Loop Guru, Neil Sparkes and The Last Tribe, Soul Captain Band, Maggie Nicols, Zubop Gambia, Baka Beyond, One Voice Choir i Mad Professor . Wracając do płyty – Molara wyśpiewuje piękny tekst autorstwa Colina z Power Steppers o tytule “Crown of creation”, a chorwacki duet uzupełnił dobrym dubem w stylu Abassi z dobrym dęciakiem, oczywiście mamy także porządną  dub wersję. Na koniec polecę wam kawałek Dubble ze składanki “The lost books of dub [chapter 2]”  o tytule “Rise up”  oraz 10″ z Echo Ranksem.
