[Review] Bababoom Hi Fi – “We Play Sound” ft. Earl Sixteen / “Life On Line” ft. I-Mitri

1204-label-a-wItalian crew Bababoom Hi Fi has just released 12” with two brilliant tracks on the same, massive and heavy one drop riddim. “We Play Sound” is a soundsystem culture anthem with Earl 16 on the vocals. On the flip side we hear I-Mitri with  great and important lyrics about social media and internet. It’s crucial for us to use them wisely and keep our distance, so it’s very good when such real-life, social topics are raised.

Getting back to the riddim – The Roots Defender band did a masterful work. Melodies and lyrics just flow on heavy bassline, one-drop beat with a perfect tempo just invites us to dance. Looking forward to play and hear this tune on a soundsystem session!

Vibronics – “The Return of Vibronics”

Vibronics – “The Return of Vibronics”

The Return Of VIBRONICSWhen I hear that Steve Vibronics is making a new release, it gives me the shivers, no matter what it will be – 7”, 10”, 12” or full album. Long awaited, the newest LP “The Return of Vibronics” surely can be found as one of the best made by the hands of one of the best dub producers of our times. Everyone, who knows Vibronics’ tunes can imagine what to expect – but here we get even more bass with great, catchy melodies; even more energy and dub! 12 heavy compositions, each of them can fire up a soundsystem dancefloor. The music is complemented by top vocalists: Micheal Prophet in a excellent, steppers riddim “Searching For Jah”, Macka B in his best style asks us are we ready (always!), Soom T on a initially rootical riddim splendidly sings against Babylon, Madu, who is singing with Steve on almost every show, knows all the ins and outs of the riddims and fits perfectly; Danman’s deejay style is great as usual, the same is valid for I-Mitri’s voicing. Vibronics’ LP one more time opens our minds for beautiful melodies in dub music. This release is a must for every dubhead!

Ps. Also a new, concert album has been released – Brain Damage&Vibronics – “Empire Soldiers live”. A whole hour with fantastic music from “Empire Soldiers” (http://dubmassive.org/5986/brain-damage-meets-vibronics-empire-soldiers-juz-wkrotce/). Well, it’s not much to add, grab it and listen. What a pity, that such concert never happened in Poland – the meeting of two, future dub titans!

Jeph1 & I-Mitri – “Blaze ” (MindStep)

Jeph1 & I-Mitri – “Blaze ” (MindStep)

MSS004---Blaze---[artwork]MindStep label is known from electronic, dubstep and drum’n’bass productions – generally speaking, they promote bass music producers. They have released artworks by i.a. Adam Prescott, who I think is widely known by us, dubheads, or Perverse – who recently has recorded for New Moon.

Getting straight to the point – I am glad to present you a single by Jeph1, a heavyweight producer from Athens, who creates a heavily dark music in relation to the sunny land he comes from. “Blaze” is a dose of good electronics and juicy bass, conjoined with I-Mitri’s vocals. Additionally, there are 3 remixes. The first (and my favourite) one is made by Dubkasm – Dj Stryda and Digistep have turned that tune into a steppers in their own, unique style – any fan of their productions will know that bass. This remix delights me even more due to the fact that music from Dubkasm soothes my soul, even if the weight often doesn’t reflect it. Remix by Trashbat has also worked that way – such a soft, chill-out mood. On the end there are dubstep warriors from The Iluminated, who record i.a. for New Moon and know well what is dubstep without sick drillers and full of heavy bass and space.

Jah Free – “The war drags on” (12”)

Jah Free – “The war drags on” (12”)

a side the war drags on label 2I’ve been very happy to hear that Jah Free is going to publish a new 12”. Since I remember, that artist connects music with a strong message, bringing up political or religious issues. It’s not different this time – the new release is a protest against the war. Eponymous tune ‘War drags on” performed by Jah Free is an original Donovan’s lyric from 1965, about the Vietnam war. Unfortunately, life shows that it’s still up-to-date in 2014. I-Mitri fitted the whole concept and set out a strong protest song named “No more war”. The third amazing vocalist is Mat-I – an Italian, who leads label Tamarat (http://dubmassive.org/8260/bass-culture-players-live-in-harmony-12), and Jah Free shows up as a very good chatter on the riddim; in the background we can also hear vocals by Jah Free and Simiah. On the B side of that amazing 12” we have 3 dub versions, first one with melodica, the second one is a deep heavyweight dub version and the third one Jah Free dedicates to all of the MCs to protest against the war.
