Gentleman’s Dub Club is a British band that has shown up on the Ostróda festival this year – what they showed there is going to be memorizde by fans for a long time. In the past month they released an album named “44”. It is their comeback after 7 years of playing live. The album is a mixture of classic reggae with strong accents of lovers, steppers, 2 tone and dub music. As they say – it’s “heavy modern dance artillery, influenced by modern music – techno, dark dubstep, hip hop”. Radikal Guru – “Subconscious” (CD/LP)
Countdown is over, we don’t have to wait anymore for second Radikal Guru’s longplay intriguingly called “Subconscious”!!! Yes, it has been two years since the release of the “Rootstepa”, although the artist pleases us with his music pretty often – at least once a year he releases a single or makes a remix for somebody else. However, the full album attracts even more, and by the way creates concerns about the direction it is going to head to and if it’s going to be as good as the previous one. All of the doubts have been resolved. Right after the first few bars “Subconscious” (the opening tune “Earthwalker”) shows that Radikal is in a good shape. And so, thirsty of low frequencies, I get 10 tough tunes – three with promising guests: YT, Danman, Echo Ranks – only their names send shivers up my back, and the mentioned two of them are considered by me as leading sound system microphone warriors. About the single – “warning” with Echo Ranks you could have already read on our website. Back then I thought that a single like that raises the bar high for the whole album, but what I have heard on “Subconscious” broke me out of my shoes. YT in tune named “Stay Calm” showed his own style and fitted perfectly to the calm rhythm. Danman in “Know Yourself” presented a lyric that I have already heard on an Iration Steppas party and when I heard it again on the album i couldn’t pick myself up for the next few minutes. One would say – only 3 vocal tunes per 10 in total – but 3 vocalists of high class like that is a lot. Radikal deserves an applause for urging them to join his album (although he probably didn’t have to trouble too much, as he is a well known producer on the dub scene). As for the rest of the tracks – eponymous “Subconscious” deserves attention, it reveals Radikal’s fascination of jungle, what doesn’t disturb and even spices the whole thing up – just like in “Wicked Dub” where we can hear the typical sound that could also be heard in productions by Mark Iration (so nice!). “Indra” takes us into India, the next musical fascination of the hero of that review; “Different dub” put me in a trance; “Spaced out” and “Outernational” are tunes in Radikal’s typical style. The whole album is full of bass, although it could be not enough for dubstep fans, but for me it’s just perfect – the direction he went to is ideal for me, more into dub and with a huge respect to the roots. Ladies and gentlemen – I recommend you to buy the new album of our national dub pride!
Dubble feat. Dan Man – “Politricks” (10”)
Some time ago we have presented records from Dubble with Molara on vocals. And here they again give us a musical bomb with Dan Man as a vocalist, who is known in Poland for cooperating with Radikal Guru. Dubble will play on Dub Temple in Cracow in two weeks thanks to Dubseed. The eponymous tune is a tough dub steppers with a drilling bass and Danman’s vocals reproaching politicians flaws. Of course there is a dub version which I consider better than the original one – vestigial vocals, echo and bass making me feel like if I were in the outer space. On the other side of the album there is a known tune “Rise Up”, which appeared on Dub Iration Soundsystem’s “The Lost Books of Dub” and a dub version, which is energetic and reminds of Gorgon Sound creations, what undoubtedly is a big plus.
I am glad that the Croatian will show up in poland and I am sure that they will make an unforgettable show.
Dub Whale
About two weeks ago records from newly born Dub Whale crew has been uploaded to the web. Check out what they wrote to us:
We keep our fingers crossed!
Mic Ah Bun (EP)
The Italian are operating well on the world dub scene for a long time, it’s enough to mention netlabel medleys Italian Dub Community, which show us variety and power of Italian dub. EP that i am going to introduce today is the best proof of it. Two strong players made it in cooperation – Dziga and MrDill Lion Warriah. Both of them have netlabel releases on their accounts – Dziga (producer) worked i.a. for netlabel of French fresh-poulp.net and the vocalist MrDill Lion Warriah recorded for 4weed.net. Recently, we published a reviwe of a single with his contribution “Roots fanatics”. On Mic Ah Bun, among the two mentioned artists, you can hear French producer Krak In Dub from Fogata Sound, with great, more dub-ish version of the original tune (excellent for sound systems), better from Dziga’s creation in my opinion – more electronical, with heavy dubstep accents. As for MrDill Lion warriah he chatted on a high level, the lyric telling about warriors that fight using the words and microphone gloriously matches the music. Follow the productions of the Italian dubheads because they release many pearls, just as in the France.
Muflon Dub&Revelation Time Sound&Marcus Style – “Rassemblement”
Ladies and gentlemen, today I recommend you a new release featuring a Pole – Muflon Dub Sound System. He made an amazing collaboration with Revelation Time Sound (Nantes, France) and Marcus Style (Martinique, France), who usually work a lot with other French artists. As Muflon informed us: “We got in touch by internet and we began to produce music. It started from improvisation on my riddims and then there were months of polishing the tunes, hundreds of versions etc. The lyrics are in Creole (a variety of French language) and are telling about things like: Jah and His mission, suffering on the world, memory of heroes of the faith from the past and the unity of the whole human kind.”

Gorgon Sound vs Dubkasm
Some time ago Gorgon Sound released an ep with 4 tracks – some of you might not have had enough time to enjoy it to the full and the crew from Bristol prepared the same tunes, but in Dubkasm versions! It’s their 4th release by now, the first two contained Dubkasm remixes alongside Gorgon Sound’s tunes, so the current EP is not a surprise. The artist themselves say that they fulfill expectations of soundmen, who asked for Dubkasm versions. Dj Stryda or Digistep did it in their best style, using a lot of reverbs and delays. There is nothing else than wait for the day the EP will be released.
Tracklist:
Rise – Arise
Righteous Dub – Righteous Conteraction
Medus – Dub Mirror
Orion – Who Ah De Gorgon
Beam Up – “Astronomy Dub/Hanabi Dub” (7”)
Nowadays there aren’t many producers making classic dub, but there is a group of crazy lovers of 70s dub sounds. Beam Up (Dj Delay) is one of these people and Beaming Productions label has just released his 7″. The first side – “Astronomy dub” – is a meditational tune perfect to listen when watching the sky, kept in classic 70s dub style. The second side is “Hanabi dub” with Terrence Bowry on vocals, whose singing also reminds of that times. I encourage you to discover Dj Delay’s output – he’s outstanding artist on the dub scene. Check his other releases like “Brass Wires & Bass” or “Terra Sonica”.
