ZamZam Sounds’ release number 53 brings Belgium producer Digid with forceful, digital steppa vibes in „We Nah Go”. On the flip side „Digital Time” delivers more meditative vibes via a dubstep-like bassline and chasm of effects.

Limited to 700 7″, no repress, no digital, no mercy for speakers.

Two recent releases from ZamZam Sounds should satisfy all fans of heavyweight dubs and both of them will do this in a different style. The releases number 51 brings two tracks of Systemwide; „Low Orbit”, remixed by Alter Echo”, delivers a message of the outer-space: a minimal but powerful bassline is a foundation for a universe of mysterious sounds and samples. This is the exploration of bass and dub universe which I love in ZamZam’s releases. The B side is Dubkasm’s remix of „Liberation” and it’s a deep, mystical steppers in the best style of the Bristol duo.

The release number 52 continues delivering heavyweight vibes. From a mysterious atmosphere, we’re moving to a sound system dance, where a powerful steppa riddim by Bukkha and Madplate Sound combined with the great voice of Junior Dread mashes the area – „Nada A Perder” („Nothing To Lose”) is a real dancefloor banger with a conscious message.

[Review] EGOLESS ft. Tenor Youthman – „Non-Immigrant Song” (ZamZam Sounds)

ZamZam number 50 for me is a great example of balancing with the „centre of gravity” in a release. On the A side, we have the track called „Non-Immigrant Song” and it’s truly an anthem thanks to the emphasis put by Tenor Youthman. A strong voice with a strong message keeps you focused on the story. Egoless’s music here is not trying to cover the vocalist, it is rather minimalistic, no overwhelming effects. But then the dub version comes and here the craziness of sounds and effects begin. Here The Dub talks and do this masterfully…

PS. There is a gift inside this release!

Latest releases from ZamZam Sounds bring two visionary dubs. Number #45 with Emperor T AKA Phuture-T comes with pounding, visionary steppa style in „Macka Step Dub” and even faster „Mek It Run Dub”. Release number #46 by Tetrad ships moody, four-to-the-floor „Awaken Dub” on the A side; on the flip side we get really serious hypnotic dubstep, minimal in its form, but massive in reception.

J:Kenzo – „Without” / „Within” (ZamZam Sounds)

J:Kenzo – „Without” / „Within” (ZamZam Sounds)

Another exploration in the realm of sub frequencies from ZamZam Sounds, this time with J:Kenzo as a guide.

zam44_1200pixw„It’s no exaggeration to say that J:Kenzo is one of the leading lights of underground bass music today.  As a producer for labels as diverse, venerable, and crucial as Tempa, Metalheadz, and Exit Records he makes much of the music defining the moment from drum & bass to steppers.  He also shapes our listening and dancing through the careful curation of his own Artikal Music UK and Lion Charge imprints, to say nothing of his monthly Rinse FM show and non-stop global touring.  Needless to say we were extremely pleased when he approached us with two tunes tailor-made for ZamZam.

“Without” is a 140 workout, at once minimalist, muscular, mezamditative and sinister.  A deep skanking pad and synthetic percussion set the stage for the leaden kick and steady hi hat pulse calling all dancers.  Rockers’ drum fill and test tone sprinkle dubwise flavor as the haunting melodics waft through, as hypnotic as smoke trails in a cloudy studio. “Without” is perfectly crafted in every respect.

The flip side “Within” is another expertly honed journey into deep 140 waters, heavy on the atmospherics that recall wide open vistas and treacherous seas.  Synth and bass work as one, surfacing and diving to both anchor and propel a massive riddim both heady and totally physical.  The hi hat is again steady with punctuating snares & claps, huge chasms of space open up leaving the listener stunned at the depths within.”

Versa – „A Midsummer Night’s Dub” / Versa & Rowl „Trimorphic” (ZamZam Sounds)

Versa – „A Midsummer Night’s Dub” / Versa & Rowl „Trimorphic” (ZamZam Sounds)

zam43_1200pixwZamZam #43 brings us mystical and extra deep and steppers by Versa, with resonating bass that literally fill up the room with your speakers. In contrast to this extremely low areas we get very moody guitar melodies. On the flip side we move with more broken rhythm into dub techno area.

„Joining the ZamZam ranks with # 43, Versa (AKA Michael Nickless AKA Michael Versa) is well known to sound system music addicts from a string of wicked releases beginning in 2009, most recently a pair of highly sought after plates on the mighty System label. Versa’s productions are known for extremely powerful basslines, a deeply dubwise production sensibility and masterful sound design.

“A Midsummer Night’s Dub” is a truly blissful 130 stepper, let by an unforgettable, filigreed melody threading Occident and Orient. Washed out yet insistent hi hats and claps locked with a deeply melodic bassline drive the riddim, augmented by beautifully delayed guitar licks and mixing prowess reminiscent of classic Dub Syndicate updated for the modern sound system dance.

Versa is joined by frequent sparring partner Rowl on the B side, “Trimorphic,” an extraordinarily deep and emotive journey into 140 space. Powered by a tight staccato kick and equally clipped sub line, the tune revels in deep pads with a pedigree in the best of classic dub techno. Accented by fluttering percussion, gorgeous synth washes and restrained, masterful dubbing, “Trimorphic” is a journey for those who like to plumb the depths unchained from convention – real Sounds from The Well.”

[Review] „Love & Understanding” – Henry & Louis f. Johnny Clarke (ZamZam Sounds)

[Review] „Love & Understanding” – Henry & Louis f. Johnny Clarke (ZamZam Sounds)

zam40_1200pixwZamZam 40 comes with the legendary Jamaican roots singer Johnny Clarke. The people responsible for this version are also an institution – Henry & Louis (Jack Lundie and Andy Scholes) are one of the Bristol icons of 'Bristol sound’. This crew has started their musical journey in 1988, forming 2Kings label in 1990. A heavily edited version of “Love and Understanding” was released on their „Time Will Tell” LP; this release is the first time the full vocal and full dub version have been heard in all their glory.

The vocal part from this release comes from 1996 when they travelled to Jamaica. The riddim is very moody and subtle, with clipped horns and hypnotic vibe; the dub version goes even further, stripped to pounding bassline percussion hits and vocal snippets with long delays.

A truly extraordinary, hypnotic dub experience with the specific 90s sound.

zam39_1200pixwAnother pearl for deep, dubstep and very-very-very low frequencies lovers out of ZamZam Sounds. Compa’s first release for this label is a real journey into a dark bass valley. The A side with „Shaka’s Truth” brings us mystical vibes on a broken rhythm with vocal samples and synth melodies. On the flip side we  get pounding and crushing riddim with delays and flying, distorted snares. Above sweeping low frequencies, melodies from outer space are  appearing and vanishing into the dark.

Two tracks for taking you into another dimension.
