Emana Sound Records presents – Mr Zebre, Sis I Leen, Ist3p, Chazbo, Bredrin Records, Conscious Tribe

emanaFrench soundsystem scene is amazing, probably every dubhead knows that. I am very glad that they often promote producers less known outside the country. Presented Emma Sound Records release, where big names are next to artists I haven’t heard of, confirms it.

It’s been like half a year since their latest release (http://dubmassive.org/10076/emana-sound-records-adubtion-family/) so the appetite for a new album grew even more. The hunger has been appeased completely, couldn’t be any different when we get such 4 tunes with 4 versions.

The album is opened by very active recently Mr Zebre’s “Open the boards”, vocally supported by Sis I Leen, known I.a. from cooperation with OBF or Iron Dubz, proving one more time that on heavy rhythms she’s in her element. The second track is produced by a Ist3p, who blew my mind with his ‘Medusa’. It’s hard to recover from such a hit and the version by Chazbo didn’t help at all, simply a knockout and a certain favourite to be play at 4 in the morning. It’s only the A side, I am already very satisfied and it gets even better when I head ‘Dark Natty’ by Bredrin Records or Benjah&EK duo who refer to Aba Shanti style with their production. Lastly, there is ‘Hard Times’ by Conscious Tribe and Chazbo’s mix.

Incredible release, 100% soundsystem earthquake!

P.S. The vinyl is a collective and solidarity project that all funds will be donate to “Yalla! Pour les enfants”, an association who helps children refugees in Europe with education programs.

Mr Zebre – “Tell Myself – Concrete Jungle EP”

Mr Zebre – “Tell Myself – Concrete Jungle EP”

Cover1Mr Zebre is a man who lives and breathes music, proving it with his own EP and promotion of yet less known artist. On one hand this is an one-riddim album and on the other hand the rhythm sounds different every time. Couldn’t be different, when Lisa Dainjah decorates it with her voice in ‘Tell Myself’, Booba Roots plays melodica in ‘Tellodica’ and Ras Jahsuha flows like a veteran MC in ‘Concrete Jungle’. Of course the basis is the energetic riddim by Mr Zebre, where Angela Aguilara’s excellent horns complement this joyful production, positively attuning to live in Babylon.

Rootical Attack 12” – Mr Zebre&El Fata

Rootical Attack 12” – Mr Zebre&El Fata

indeksMr Zebre is already a well-known player on sound system scene (http://dubmassive.org/search/mr+zebre), whom working is rooted in European coutries as well as Mexico and Peru. One of his recent releases is another one in French Rootical Attack label. On the A side in “I Love Jah” we hear soundsystem old sweat El Fata, whom voice adds a meditative atmosphere to this heavy riddim. We get also a dub version, where meditation is enhancing as the music goes deeper and heavier. And the third version with added melodica raises us to the highest level of musical contemplation. On the B side Mr Zebre presents us the history of Indian Yamasee, who were fighting with English and Spanish colonizers in the XVII and XVIII century. He pays tribute to them in the best, heavyweight style, sending our body and mind into Indian world.

World Bass Culture – “Destination” EP

World Bass Culture – “Destination” EP

a3013280104_10Presented EP had premiere in December 2015 and it’s the creation of Polish/Irish crew World Bass Culture, who has been working mainly in Ireland since 2007 (Radikal Guru and Spetz mentioned them in our interview long time ago – http://dubmassive.org/818/radikal-guru-elektroniczno-indyjskie-fascynacje-z-polsko-irlandzkim-rodowodem/ ).

The EP is opened by title track “Destination” with Benji Revelation on the vocal and a magic melodica by Miahlodica. The riddim was created by Spetz, who has surprised me in a very positive way. A high level is confirmed by the dub version, where are fellow countryman spread his wings, moving the rhythm into a melodic steppers. The third track is Radikal Guru’s version, who speeds up the riddim even more in a great, strong, deep bass style. And the last but not least – Dub Doctor’s version, faster then others with drum&bass-like flavour, wide space and nice synths.

A very nice,  consistent release, where each tune is different, yet the same good.

Dub Invaders Vol.3 Part.1 – Aku-Fen feat. Omar Perry / Twelve feat. Doubla J

Dub Invaders Vol.3 Part.1 – Aku-Fen feat. Omar Perry / Twelve feat. Doubla J

Adobe Photoshop PDFDub Invaders, a soundsystem part of High Tone crew, have been working since 2009 and gives us great dub music (http://dubmassive.org/en/tag/dub-invaders/). Presented release is the third one and also the first chapter. The A side begins with Omar Perry, long time not heard on heavy dubs. Here he fits in very well with Aku-Fen riddim – a modern, electronic dub with cosmic sounds; the version of this one is a pure heavyweight with a fat and massive bassline. On the B side we get Twelve with a young MC from Germany Double J and they present us very bassy and dubby digital dancehall with sharp synths. As usual I look forward for the next releases, every time Dub Invaders surprises me with their approach to dub.

The release will be available from April 1st, 2016.

Adwa Dubs – “Forward We Go”

Adwa Dubs – “Forward We Go”

FRENTE

It’s been a long time since last reviews of Brazilian dubs (http://dubmassive.org/tag/digitaldubs or  http://dubmassive.org/571/dubversao-sistema-de-som-apresenta-brother-culture-chillin-inna-brasil). However, we get back there thanks to Adwa Dubs from Curitiba, who also run a sound system. Release, that interested me is titled ‘Forward We Go’ and it is an album with contribution of 7 vocalists on mighty productions by Adwa Dubs. The music is a nice essence of sound system vibes mixed with melodic, contemporary dub. In the vocal versions Tenna Star with the eponymous ‘Forward we go’ and Sofia Besso with ‘Hypocrisy’ comes to the fore. We also get there Derajah & I-Kushna on a slightly digital riddim or Alienacao on a strong steppers, similarly to Monkey Jhayam, who already has some nice productions on his account. As for the instrumentals it’s definitely worth to mention ‘Full Moon’ with beautiful horns (reminding me Dubkasm) or ‘The ride of the warriors’, which is much more darker but a flute lightens it up.

To sum up – Adwa Dubs has done a really great job!

Ackboo – “Invincible”

Ackboo – “Invincible”

a1256623641_10It has been 3 years since last album from a talented French producer Ackboo (http://dubmassive.org/en/5437/ackboo-turn-up-the-amplifier). During this time he has been performing and releasing a lot. ‘Invicible’  is the first announcement of a new album. Ackboo created a dark, fast-paced rhythm and Brother Culture sings and chats about the human nature. We impatiently wait for the new LP to be released on the first of April!

Strictly Dub Records – “None Shall Escape”

Strictly Dub Records – “None Shall Escape”

SDRV12001-AStrictly Dub Records label comes back with a new 12″ where you can hear a well-known Russian producer Rebelsteppa. The rhythm itself is a melodic steppers with an addition of a saxophone part in a meditation style, vocally backed up by Stikki Tantafari from Jamaica. In ‘None Shall Escape’ he sings about important matters for every spiritual person and the dub version brilliantly emphasizes the lyrics and the unique mood. B side is taken by Sista Sherin, who praises The Highest One with her beautiful voice making even a toughest rudeboy break and stop for a moment. The dub version presents Rebelsteppa’s talent again, showing a softer face of the rhythm. Definitely a release worth recommendation!
