Vibronics – “The Return of Vibronics”

Vibronics – “The Return of Vibronics”

The Return Of VIBRONICSWhen I hear that Steve Vibronics is making a new release, it gives me the shivers, no matter what it will be – 7”, 10”, 12” or full album. Long awaited, the newest LP “The Return of Vibronics” surely can be found as one of the best made by the hands of one of the best dub producers of our times. Everyone, who knows Vibronics’ tunes can imagine what to expect – but here we get even more bass with great, catchy melodies; even more energy and dub! 12 heavy compositions, each of them can fire up a soundsystem dancefloor. The music is complemented by top vocalists: Micheal Prophet in a excellent, steppers riddim “Searching For Jah”, Macka B in his best style asks us are we ready (always!), Soom T on a initially rootical riddim splendidly sings against Babylon, Madu, who is singing with Steve on almost every show, knows all the ins and outs of the riddims and fits perfectly; Danman’s deejay style is great as usual, the same is valid for I-Mitri’s voicing. Vibronics’ LP one more time opens our minds for beautiful melodies in dub music. This release is a must for every dubhead!

Ps. Also a new, concert album has been released – Brain Damage&Vibronics – “Empire Soldiers live”. A whole hour with fantastic music from “Empire Soldiers” (http://dubmassive.org/5986/brain-damage-meets-vibronics-empire-soldiers-juz-wkrotce/). Well, it’s not much to add, grab it and listen. What a pity, that such concert never happened in Poland – the meeting of two, future dub titans!

Wicked Dub Division & Michela Grena – “Dub Drops”

Wicked Dub Division & Michela Grena – “Dub Drops”

dubdrops_coverWe get an amazing, so mystical release from Italians – in 2014 a cooperation between Wicked Dub Division (live dub) and Michela Grena took place, what resulted in “Dub Drops”. All of them are veterans of Italian dub scene, WDD has been working since 10 years and they have a lot of both vinyl releases and free, netlabel ones. Michela used to sing in well known band BR Stylers. The album consists of 10 tracks, where dub is the foundation, sometimes in a minimal style, sometimes more dark, but always with a solid bass and conscious lyrics passed by beautiful Michela’s voice. Every tune is a solid dub, but “New Slavery” can be a showcase of their style – both brilliant words and music creates amazing vibe, moving into jazz world in the dub version. In many moments this releases reminds me Ragana (http://dubmassive.org/1181/ragana-a-long-delay-ago/) and makes me sad, that they are no longer active. I wish WDD and Michele to give us more such good albums – never enough of live dub!

Indica Dubs – “Let Jah”

Indica Dubs – “Let Jah”

a1954934285_10This is one of these records which draws attention not only thanks to music, but also because of a story – and as a reviewer, writer and an educated historian I love this the same as a resonating bass, delays and echoes. Indica Dubs, Earl 16 and also Bredda Neil from King Shiloh are the main characters of this story. It started in 2012, when Indica went to King Shiloh’s session in London, where a new 12” with Earl 16 was introduced to a public. He was given a copy of this release from Bredda Neil with his autograph, later in the night he got also Earl’s autograph and they exchanged contacts fur some future works. After 3 years this story had a happy end, when Indica called Earl and proposed recording a 10”. Earl reacted with huge enthusiasm, he remembered their first meeting. Thanks to this short story we get 4 amazing tracks. “Let Jah” is a beautiful Earl’s singing with a conscious lyrics, additionally we have a dub version made in cooperation with Forward Fever. On the flip side we have the riddim enhanced by a lovely violin played by Marriane and a dub version.

Free releases from Culture Dub Records

Free releases from Culture Dub Records

Every seeking dubhead has probably found a French site Culture Dub with reviews and reports from dub events. This time they present us 2 releases from their netlabel. Frankly speaking we missed the first one, because it was released in March. It contains French dub without compromises by producer duo Pilah&Joe Pilgrim, 6 tracks remixed by Fabasstone, Dub Defender, Mayd Hubb and TD+. The second, June release, presents artists well-known to our readers – Inspirational Sound (http://dubmassive.org/tag/inspirational-sound), vocally supported by recently very active Daman (check KillaSoundYard and his cooperation with Zion Train).

Moa Anbessa – “Jah Jah Thank You/ Step It Up”

Moa Anbessa – “Jah Jah Thank You/ Step It Up”

11169799_844631468954840_8909224862608259633_nItalian crew (http://dubmassive.org/tag/moa-anbessa) presents us a great 12” with two talented vocalists, who they often promote on their sound system – Don Diego and Well Jahdgment. Don Diego opens this release mystically in a tune praising The Most High and thanking for His presence. The riddim made by Moa Anbessa producers delivers a strong bassline with beautiful melodies and the dub version brings yet more mysticism. The B side belongs to Well Jahdgement – in “Step It Up” a steppers rules both musically and lyrically. The dub version is also very powerful and I think that it will force everyone to dance!

Dubkasm feat. YT and Rudey Lee – “Higher Meds / Coming in Ruff”

Dubkasm feat. YT and Rudey Lee – “Higher Meds / Coming in Ruff”

DUBK025 LABEL CROP rezizedDj Stryda and Digistep put their attention to education in a roots&culture style, it is known for anyone, who has been at their show or listened to Stryda’s show. On their releases they also promote good, old and unforgettable tunes, often they also refresh them to teach younger generations about importance of roots. So it is with this 12”, where YT and Rudey Lee go wild vocally, musically Dubkasm has refreshed a classic from 90., which was voiced by – amongst others – Dennis Brown (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LQcMl1bLyo) or Shabba Ranks.

To sum up – this new 12” brings great energy and vocalists. The dub version as always has a powerful bass and vibe, which is associated to Dubkasm’s productions.

Ackboo&Cashout – “Mexico”

Ackboo&Cashout – “Mexico”

Mexico - artEveryone knows the power of music, but it is amazing how it can help. Year ago we wrote about Dub For Philippines project, recently we’ve mentioned “Social Sounds From Planet Dub” compilation. This time all profits from “Mexico” release go to Children International Mexico, which works for education and health of disadvantaged children in Mexico. It’s worth to spend minimum 2 Euros and get a powerful remix by Ackboo, where a strong, steppers riddim is joined with Cashout’s rap. In the dub version a percussionist Bongo Ben (known from Rod Anton or Roots Raid) adds some tribal flavour.

Archetype Records – “Malloreddubs Western”

Archetype Records – “Malloreddubs Western”

11046493_459318777565146_7655457993724531417_nArchetype Records as a label has worked for 1 year and they already have a lot of soundsystem killers in their account. In the beginning few words about the latest 7” “Malloreddubs Western” with Italian dubheads – Sardinia Bass Legalize. This crew has participated in many netlabel releases, here they present us steady riddim with a strong bassline and western-style vibe. Additionally, Natural Tribulation crew adds their version on the flip side and thanks to horns part,  they have liven up already interesting riddim.

This 7” shows that Archetype Records is open to dub in different styles, they have already proved this also on free compilation Archetype Records All Stars Volume 1. Every tune from this one is a soundsystem killer, the same is with two albums (also free) by Haspar.
