Rootsstep compilation by Don Goliath – “Calling On Jah” (Dubkey netlabel)
20. release from Dubkey netlabel is a Don Goliath’s rootsstep compilation “Calling on Jah”. The album contains 15 compositions, previously presented on “Rootsstep To The World” series. Each tune, in addition to the vocal version, has also a dub and a melodica cut. Singers supporting this set are Idren Natural, Wayne McArthur, Shabeel, DJ Muzikal and Masta Jay.

“Journey to Jah” in Polish cinemas
From 26th of September Polish art cinemas will be playing a documentary of Noël Dernesch and Moritz Springer “Journey to Jah”. So far its projections has been performed during summer festivals like Ostróda Reggae Festival or Regałowisko. Now – thanks to Against Gravity – it will be possible to see it across Poland.
Gentleman i Albarosie are two big names of modern, European reggae scene, very popular in our country. When I was very fresh disciple of reggae phenomenon I was discovering them through Gentleman’s music, whose videoclip I hit watching German music channel Viva. Since today I like to get back to his album “Journey to Jah”. In the movie both musicians show us Jamaica with its culture, full of contrasts. We get to know stories about their way from western world to the small, fascinating island, which has left such great musical and cultural legacy to the world.
About movie
“Journey to Jah” paints a varied picture of the importance and spiritual meaning of reggae on the Caribbean island, where music is used to fight violence, sexism and poverty. As Alborosie says, “God lives here, but Satan too”. For seven years, filmmakers Noël Dernesch and Moritz Springer followed the two “Jamaicanized” artists on their flight from Western consumerism and their search for the roots of the Rastafarians and reggae music, and for a way to give meaning to their lives. Several musicians on the island support them along the way. They play together on the streets and are faced with the joyful, but also harsh reality of life on the island. Footage focusing on their lives as musicians is interspersed with interviews and stylized montages of scenes from everyday life. The result is a kaleidoscopic impression of a world where music serves as a path to unity.

Swoją pozycję na scenie szybko ugruntowali grając wspólne sesje z czołowymi brytyjskimi dubowymi sound systemami, jak Jah Tubbys, Aba Shanti I, King Earthquake, Ma-Kaya, Quaker City, Hytal Bosrah, Jah Voice, Young Warrior i innymi. W 2009 roku doszli do finału Jah Works Promotions Roots & Culture Unification Cup, w którym mierzyli się na dubplates z sound systemem King Earthquake. Polskę odwiedzą na dwie sesje w Krakowie i Trójmieście, co prawda bez własnego sound systemu, ale w pełnym składzie: DanI, Strugglin Man, Mr P oraz z gościnnym udziałem Cheshire Cat.

W 1988 dołączył do składu Love Injection Sound System i brał udział w clashach przeciwko soundsystemowym legendom, jak Saxon, Sir Coxsone i V-Rocket, a także soundom z Jamajki: Stone Love, Hemini, Silver Hawk, czy Jaro. Lata ’90 to przede wszystkim singiel “Bite The Dust” dla Sony Music oraz współpraca z legendą sceny dance Leftfield przy “Release The Pressure” i “Chant Of A Poorman”, a także z gwiazdą pop Simply Red przy ich wersji hitu “Night Nurse”. Nagrywał i koncertował z Ashtech, Red Seal, Love Grocer, by wymienić tylko kilku. PANDADREAD SOUND SYSTEM to półtoratonowa tuba propagandowa, skupiająca wokół siebie selektorów i wokalistów z Trójmiasta i okolic. Na zamykającą wakacje sesje Dub Temple prosto z Birmingham zaprosiliśmy załogę Jah Hamma, która to pojawi się u nas w pełnym składzie (Dani, Struggling Man, P) wraz z gościnnym udziałem niezwykle utalentowanego MC Cheshire Cat. Ta dość młoda, choć niezwykle obiecująca na brytyjskiej scenie UK Roots ekipa przy solidnym lokalnym wsparciu zagra wielogodzinną sesję sound systemową w prawdziwie „wyspiarskim”stylu. Imperial Sound Army – “Doyen/Bravery” (12”)
Brand new 12” from Imperial Sound Army is now available in the shops – composed and mixed by Dan I, issued by his Imperial Roots Records and distributed and marketed by Control Tower Records. We have two tracks on this release, both voiced by Fikir Amlak in modern roots style. Musically riddims are rather heavy and each vocal version has 2 different mixes with some new flavour – especially interesting piece is second version of “Doyen”, which changes the riddim from one drop to steppers and this shows how much different energy can be brought by changing the drums line.
