[Review] Radikal Guru “Stay Calm” ft. YT (Mungo’s Hi-Fi remix) / “Earthwalker” (Sekkleman remix) – Moonshine Recordings

[Review] Radikal Guru “Stay Calm” ft. YT (Mungo’s Hi-Fi remix) / “Earthwalker” (Sekkleman remix) – Moonshine Recordings

MS024DI’m very glad, that Sekkleman is appearing in Moonshine Recordings again! The release number 24 from this label contains two remixes of Radikal Guru’s tracks and Australian producer took “Earthwalker” on. His version is a dark, powerful steppers with a trance-like bassline and drums, flute melody and a lot of atmospheric sounds. It is very gloomy, meditative and so massive at the same time, just perfect for for a meditation under the wall of 18” subs.

Mungo’s Hi-Fi remixed “Stay Calm” with YT vocals, basing the tune on the part of bass and – primarily – on drums beating out the rhythm like a slow heartbeat. Some melodies of leads and synths are showing gently through the strong vocal of YT. There’s no need to say more, just excellent remixes.

[Review] Dub Conductor – “World Cry” / “Hunting Warrior”

[Review] Dub Conductor – “World Cry” / “Hunting Warrior”

DCM007-Web-Image_Side-A-The seventh release from Dub Conductor brings us two solid tunes. On the A side we get very energetic riddim with a pumping bassline and charismatic vocals of Blackout Ja. Thanks to nice, mild melodica’s chords and drums part the tune gets cool rootical flavour. The B side is for all lovers of raw, massive dub – “Hunting Warrior” is a digital, instrumental steppers based on synth-like sounds, ruff&tuff style.

Digi.Signa – “Rasta Takeover” / “Murda We Charge”

Digi.Signa – “Rasta Takeover” / “Murda We Charge”

rastaTo its release number 20, Digi.Signa invited Vibronics to cooperation again (http://dubmassive.org/en/9928/u-roydaddy-spencer-remixed-by-vibronics-and-zion-train-segnale-digitale). On the vocals we get Anthony Johnson, who in a great, charismatic style – by singing and declamation – raises this nice, rockin’ riddim yet higher . Apart from a “regular” dub version we get also a special mix called “Vibronics Future Dub” and a very interesting, slow original version.

Listen: http://segnaledigitale.org/dev/en/albums/digi-signa-020

murdaThe release number 21 presents two dynamic singers – Blackout Ja and Turbulence. They flow on the riddim originally produced in reggae style; here it is tuned-up by such specialists like Neil Perch from Zion Train and Numa Crew (jungle version). All of this together makes very energetic mix.

Another very good releases from Digi.Signa!

[Review] Adam Prescott & Donovan Kingjay – “Weed Anthem”

[Review] Adam Prescott & Donovan Kingjay – “Weed Anthem”

a3333040759_16Adam Prescott and Reggae Roast will always be a quality mark to me. Their 7″ ‘Weed Anthem’ with Donovan Kingjay on the vocals praising ‘the holy weed’  is a great position on ganja tunes 2016 chart. Musically, Adam introduces us to digital reggae, but away from the digital style. He refers to a classic ‘Hot Milk’ riddim on which Johnny Clarke sung ‘Legalize it’. The dub version lets us delight with Addis Pablo’s melodica. A great release, also few days ago  Adam’s debut LP ‘Warrior’ was published and will be reviewed by us soon!

Mark Wonder – “Inalysis/Braveheart”

Mark Wonder – “Inalysis/Braveheart”

markwonderMark Wonder is one of those Jamaicans who don’t have to prove anything, having cooperating with reggae legends (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6wEU-g4ApQ), a lot of music and concerts on his account. The presented 10″ from Addis Records is a piece of great music on the highest level with a strong message and Mark’s beautiful vocals. The opening ‘Inalysis’ is an anthem to the freedom inna roots&culture style, where bass pulsates lively and the horns make it lofty, complementing this masterpiece (by the way, I haven’t been so magnetised and softened by roots for a long time). Alex Schneiter is responsible for the beautiful trumpet, additionally there is Jonah Dan on the percussion and Christine Miller in the chorus. Knowing that Russ D took care of the mastering I can freely say that the crew is built by true masters. The B side is a bit different, more lively, presenting a well-known riddim – ‘Tempo’. Mark introduces an amazing harmony that makes you feel grateful and the dub version deepens the experience. Of course, both of the tunes have a dub version.

A great release with beautiful music!

Dub Dynasty – “Holy Cow”

Dub Dynasty – “Holy Cow”

Holy-Cow-Album-ArtDub Dynasty, combined forces of Alpha Steppa and Alpha&Omega, returns with the third album full of music – on their double LP  we have 16 tracks and digital versions contain bonuses. What can we expect from the dub family this time?

Let’s start from guests, because there is a lot of them. We have Cologne, who fits in with solid riddims very well, but we’ve already heard this on “Rooted & Grounded”; we have Steppas Records veteran Ras Tinny. Woman voices are represented by Kiangana and Sista Jane Warriah. The list is finished by Iyano Iyanti and Violinbwoy.

Musically we get what’s best from Alpha&Omega and Alpha Steppa. Hypnotic, tribal riddims, many times filled with etno-style elements and dub magic – just listen to “I Am Dub”. Tunes with women vocals are fantastic – firstly we hear beautiful, slow and heavy anthem “Material Things” and next comes fast, dark “Oh Father” with Kiangana – if you like the style of Alpha&Omega’s tracks like “Rastafari”, you will be satisfied. By the way the second one with Kiangana is in the same mood and the result of slow singing based on a massive and fast bassline is great; a similar thing is with melody played by Violinbwoy in “The Orchard”. In the middle of LP we hit my favourite, dub massacre called “Rig Veda”, which I guess is the best combination of two styles sitting in the heads of this album’s authors. Below this track in a dubplate version played by Iration Steppas:

Cologne has taken my liking on “Rooted & Grounded”, here again he sounds excellent on steppers riddims perfectly suited for a soundsystem session; the same thing is with tunes with Ras Tinny.

Epic moment with Blackboard Jungle & Little Omara skanking on the stage!!! International Dub Gathering is a must!!!

Opublikowany przez Dub Academy na 30 marca 2016

The basslines traditionally performs a massage of listener’s guts during loud listening, but what has entranced me the most is diversity, glued with this dark, mythical, hypnotic aura.  Like from a magical forest, full of elves with their fabulous instruments and suspicious mushrooms, letting you connect with spirits…Besides, in many tunes we hear twittering birds – check “Footsteps” or “Holy Cow”. And if we’re talking about this title track, a cow story – the title sanctifying these animals can be understood in many ways; the cow was and is an object of worship in a lot of religions. In the context of civilisation she can be our warning, how negative impact on the environment we make by factory farming and how human beings could sink to such depths, if we look to cruel practices of this procedure – “gentle” details of animal treatment you can find on Compassion In World Farming.

To summarize – Dub Dynasty feels very well, is close to nature and still works on mastership in dub and wizardry.

Emana Sound Records presents – Mr Zebre, Sis I Leen, Ist3p, Chazbo, Bredrin Records, Conscious Tribe

Emana Sound Records presents – Mr Zebre, Sis I Leen, Ist3p, Chazbo, Bredrin Records, Conscious Tribe

emanaFrench soundsystem scene is amazing, probably every dubhead knows that. I am very glad that they often promote producers less known outside the country. Presented Emma Sound Records release, where big names are next to artists I haven’t heard of, confirms it.

It’s been like half a year since their latest release (http://dubmassive.org/10076/emana-sound-records-adubtion-family/) so the appetite for a new album grew even more. The hunger has been appeased completely, couldn’t be any different when we get such 4 tunes with 4 versions.

The album is opened by very active recently Mr Zebre’s “Open the boards”, vocally supported by Sis I Leen, known I.a. from cooperation with OBF or Iron Dubz, proving one more time that on heavy rhythms she’s in her element. The second track is produced by a Ist3p, who blew my mind with his ‘Medusa’. It’s hard to recover from such a hit and the version by Chazbo didn’t help at all, simply a knockout and a certain favourite to be play at 4 in the morning. It’s only the A side, I am already very satisfied and it gets even better when I head ‘Dark Natty’ by Bredrin Records or Benjah&EK duo who refer to Aba Shanti style with their production. Lastly, there is ‘Hard Times’ by Conscious Tribe and Chazbo’s mix.

Incredible release, 100% soundsystem earthquake!

P.S. The vinyl is a collective and solidarity project that all funds will be donate to “Yalla! Pour les enfants”, an association who helps children refugees in Europe with education programs.
