A double strike from Reggae Roast

You know Reggae Roast from our reviews very well (http://dubmassive.org/en/search/reggae+roast). This time we are presenting two releases from this very active crew.

“Flava” EP with Brother Culture is a natural consequence after their very well acclaimed tune “Soundsystem”, which has been powering many soundsystem sessions. Here we get 5 strong tracks, where digital is mixed with heavier, dub-style parts and Brother Culture another times proves his skills as one of the best soundsystem vocalist.

The second release is a 7” bomb with Kenny Knots and Conscious Sounds. They have renewed a classic, killer tune from the 80s “Watch How The People Dancing“, which was recorded for Unity Sounds.

In this version the tempo was fastened and based on a theme from another hit from hip-hop world – Dr Dre “Next Episode”. But don’t worry, Dougie Counscious have done his work very well by adding dub style into the riddim. The best term to describe this production is probably “heavyweight digital”. A killa tune without a doubt!

Reggae Roast – “Soundsystem” (Feat. Brother Culture)

Reggae Roast crew released another tune celebrating sound system culture. A monstrous bassline in this ruff&tuff digital riddim will definitely warm up your speakers. On the vocals we have mighty Brother Culture, who nicely tells us a story about sound system culture in general and in the UK. We also get a version and wild remix by Benny Page.

Vibration Lab – “Brass Plant EP” (Reggae Roast)

Vibration Lab are debuting on the Reggae Roast label with “Brass Plant EP” – 5 track combining a classic reggae foundation with futuristic sounds. They have already proved their visionary approach mixing old&new, getting all the best from tradition and adding modern bass music vibes and this EP is another proof of their musical openness. Each tune shows a hybrid sound – a steady reggae rhythm, some instrumental melodies mixed with digital synths and additives known from modern dub&dubstep, Everything based on solid, heavy basslines and dubbed in a nice, gentle way. Wytwórnia Reggae Roast po raz kolejny raczy nas niezwykłym wydawnictwem, tym razem zabrali się za klasyka roots rock reggae Roda Taylora. Za stronę producencką odpowiedzialni są Adam Prescott (brytyjski producent mieszający korzenie z nowoczesnością – “roots kontra dubstep”), Nick Manasseh (człowiek legenda odpowiedzialny za audycje Kiss Fm, projekt Sound Iration oraz label Roots Garden), Alpha Steppa (to 2 pokolenie rodzinnego dubu Alpha&Omega) oraz Vibration Lab ( siewcy hasła “future reggae”). Natomiast Rod Taylor to czołówka pierwszej generacji jamajskich wokalistów soundsystemowych obok takich legend jak Barry Brown czy Sugar Minott, w “Praises Unto Jah” wyśpiewuje optymistyczny tekst osadzony w ideologii Rasta. Muzycznie Adam Prescott stworzył rytm z mocnym basem, zaś Manasseh wersje dubową; natomiast Alpha Steppa oraz Vibration Lab zabierają nas w rejony gdzie pogłosy i mroczne klimaty są chlebem powszednim. [Review] Adam Prescott & Donovan Kingjay – “Weed Anthem”

Adam Prescott and Reggae Roast will always be a quality mark to me. Their 7″ ‘Weed Anthem’ with Donovan Kingjay on the vocals praising ‘the holy weed’ is a great position on ganja tunes 2016 chart. Musically, Adam introduces us to digital reggae, but away from the digital style. He refers to a classic ‘Hot Milk’ riddim on which Johnny Clarke sung ‘Legalize it’. The dub version lets us delight with Addis Pablo’s melodica. A great release, also few days ago Adam’s debut LP ‘Warrior’ was published and will be reviewed by us soon!
