Sparky Riot – “Police Abuse” / “Riot Dance”

Sparky Riot – “Police Abuse” / “Riot Dance”

Sparky Riot EP - Cover

Sparky Riot has already been present on our site (http://dubmassive.org/search/sparky+riot). This crew is consequently building their style – both musical and lyrical, because they are often raising important social and political issues in their lyrics. So it is with this release – the first one is a protest song about police abuse in Baltimore, sung on a solid steppers. The second called “Riot Dance” has rich instrumentation on the foreground, carried by a fast steppers riddim with Daman’s vocals. We also get dub versions, which are a feast for bass addicts!

K-Sänn Dub & Daman – “Weapon of Resistance”

K-Sänn Dub & Daman – “Weapon of Resistance”

cover-kds-ft-daman-frontK-Sänn Dub is a French dub producer, known – amongst others – from many releases for ODG netlabel. For a full album “Weapon of Resistance” he has invited a vocalist Daman from Killa Sound Yard. He has a recognisable, soft voice and what’s important – in his lyrics we can found very actual, social and political comments. On this album the message is joined with a solid, electronic dub steppa style with rich instrumentation and very nice arrangements where sharp synths meet soft instrumental sounds (check the title track!). A very good album for all lovers of electro dub!

Jacko & Daman – “Soundsystem” (Roots Cooperation)

Jacko & Daman – “Soundsystem” (Roots Cooperation)

RC703a anteprimaBased in Murgia Italian label Roots Cooperation has recently released interesting 7” with Jacko and Daman on vocals. The lyrics say that it is not so easy to organize a dance with a sound system and it is an important voice after last series of releases celebrating the sound system culture. “They don’t want our home made tower” – people who tried to make an event with a custom made stack met with such attitude for sure…

French singers sing about “hard times” with beautiful harmony and together with the riddim, mixed in Berlin by Sawah, give us a top a top tune for sound system arenas. Sawah is also responsible for a dub version with bass punch, perfect for skanking.

Zion Train – “Money” EP

Zion Train – “Money” EP

1000x450The dub veterans don’t slow down – they are going to release a new EP “Money” that announces the new album named “Land of the blind”, which is coming out at the end of the year. The release is opened by Jamaican bobo dread Fitta Warri, who again performs with whole Zion Train crew and shows his bests style in “Permanent Pressure”. Part-time Zion Train chatter Dubdadda in “Roots Man Play” shows his remarkable skill as a singer. Daman, who lately recorded a genius netlabel release with K-Sann (http://odgprod.com/2014/05/k-sann-ft-daman-monopolize-ep/), is responsible for the last vocal version. On the rhythm made by Zion Train his voice sounds brilliant and the lyrics about money will reach everyone.

The Zion Train rhythm “Money” deserves few words as well – the version for vocalists is a classic production in the Neils Perch style, winds section is an important element here. I’ve been surprised while listening to “Money Dub”. The rhythm seemingly doesn’t change compared with the one with vocals (of course there were reverbs, echoes, sirens etc.) and in the middle of the track something happens – the bass turns into one known better from dubstep productions for such a short time that it amazingly spices up the whole tune. I admire Perch for that he is able to use various elements and still doesn’t follow the new trends and stays on the roots path set out long before. There is nothing else left than repeat the invitation to Zion Train concert in Ostróda and unfortunately wait for some records and comments from it, eventually it’s 25 years of joy of their music!
