[Review] Massive Dub Corporation (MDC) feat. Queen Omega – Real Lioness (Lion’s Den)]

The latest 12” from Lion’s Den is an excellent rootical steppers, wonderfully voiced by Queen Omega. Her powerful voice in the intro of “Real Lioness” gets stronger and stronger in line with the riddim, where piano chords get surrounded by more and more sounds and finally the music explodes with full power of rasta’s voice and lyrics. More interesting things happen in this riddim, well done Massive Dub Corporation! This tune is gripping me from the beginning to the end. Moreover it is shipped with three additional, great versions.

[Review] Lion’s Den with Violinbwoy

Two new 12” from Lion’s Den presents the work of very active recently Violinbwoy. The release LIONSCHOICEV02 is a pure heavyweight sweet with Echo Ranks on the vocals. The original version on the A side is dark and heavy Violinbwoy’s style, but on the flip side we get a remixed versions by Digitron Sound System and these guys did very nice work making this dub an electronic dub dance masher.

The earlier release LIONSCHOICEV01 is my favorite – Violinbwoy’s dub is an excellent mystical dub roller, voiced by Kali Green and Saralène. Thankfully we get two dub versions of this one, the beat made by drums is hypnotizing. The biggest surprise is a moody track called “Whole Heap A Trouble”, which is a musical masterpiece based mostly on piano part, I would say that it is very cinematic, because I can imagine it as soundtrack with easy. Additional version of this one is available as a digital download.

Well done with these one, truly modern dub vibes with a great musical spirit inside.

DIGITRON SOUND SYSTEM [Zagrzeb / HR]

Digitron Sound System, pioneer dub sound outta Croatia, balkan dub defenders! Since 2007 based on members of 2 live dub bands (Radikal Dub Kolektiv and Bamwise), piled up and led with the intention of making the first Croatian sound system, in a country where there was no culture of its kind. Musicwise closest to UK sound of digital dub with influences of different musical directions, from electronic music, to more organic. Usual suspects in Croatian and European underground scene: festivals, clubs, autonomous zones etc…

Digitron runs many nights in the biggest Croatian and only alternative cultural centre, former squat called Medika. A monthly program is paired with organizing and running many dub stages on different festivals (Modem, Lost Theory, Seasplash etc…). Apart from being active as an act that has been performing all across Europe on some of the leading festivals and club nights (Fusion, Reggaebus, Hadra, Lusine etc…), Digitron also has a label called Digitron Records and is an active production force – always ruff and tuff.

LION’S DEN [Berlin / GER]

Lion’s Den is a label / a sound system force / a studio / a platform / a collective / a production and promotion force / a “political solidarity support” focused all around music currently situated inna Berlin, Germany.

The idea of di Lion’s Den was set into place by Ras Lion (GER) a few years ago and has since been developing all along the way. It’s all about connecting different people, different influences and inspiration and merging energies to make the fire burn!

Lion痴 Den is working with various vocalists, musicians and producers from all over the world to deliver finest conscious music and spread positive vibez �on a musical mission

As a sound system force dem come in with a heavy weight selection of finest conscious music… musical ambassador Ras Lion (selektah / engineer), mostly joined on lyrical duties by the multilingual MCs/singers Kali Green and konTa or guests.

A fine selection of tuff dubs and conscious lyrics combine to make the massive skank and spread positive vibez all around.

“Rudebwoy Corporation” EP (Lion’s Den)

Every time I hear about Lion’s Den’s new release I wonder what they will surprise me this time. I got used to guests in the form of interesting vocalists and amazing, creative producers (often less known). This time they join forces with Italian label 4Weed and give us 12” with 6 heavy productions. Side A is 3 tunes with music of Dub All Sense, who has created very heavy riddims. On vocals we have Mr Williamz (already known, among others, from cooperation with Mungos Hi Fi) with incredibly strong “Haffi Bun”; MrDill Lion Warriah from Italy in “My Story” has showed how to flow over a typical dub roller. Longfingah in “Old Shatterhand” proves his high form. Side B are remixes that will make smile on the faces of all dubheads. At the beginning we get version from French Welders Hi Fi – “Haffi Bun” is even stronger than the original, which seemed impossible … Another surprise is the remix by Zion Train – in “Another story“, in his style, with exposed bass, he lift us above the orbit. At the end we get a remix by Jambassa from Italy, who used to work a lot in the netlabel Aquietbump. Here they present amazing tune, slightly embedded in the style of minimal dub.

Panda Dub ft. Daddy Freddy, Brother Culture & Kali Green – “Lent Roots Pour Chant” EP

Newly created label called Lion’s Den has just released a 12″ album by French producer Panda Dub. He specializes in heavy steppers tunes with rich arrangements – it’s the same way this time. The mix was done by Roommate, and the riddim was filled with lyrics by a legendary soundbwoy Daddy Freddy, Brother Culture who used “Dance Teng” lyric from 1985 and Kali Green, who calls us to live consciously. Lastly, there is a dub version with mix of the vocals and a strong bass piercing the whole body. It all guarantees us a soundsystem hit. We can congratulate Lion’s Den on their great debut and wish that their every release has been on such an amazing level!
