[Review] Radikal Guru “Stay Calm” ft. YT (Mungo’s Hi-Fi remix) / “Earthwalker” (Sekkleman remix) – Moonshine Recordings

I’m very glad, that Sekkleman is appearing in Moonshine Recordings again! The release number 24 from this label contains two remixes of Radikal Guru’s tracks and Australian producer took “Earthwalker” on. His version is a dark, powerful steppers with a trance-like bassline and drums, flute melody and a lot of atmospheric sounds. It is very gloomy, meditative and so massive at the same time, just perfect for for a meditation under the wall of 18” subs.

Mungo’s Hi-Fi remixed “Stay Calm” with YT vocals, basing the tune on the part of bass and – primarily – on drums beating out the rhythm like a slow heartbeat. Some melodies of leads and synths are showing gently through the strong vocal of YT. There’s no need to say more, just excellent remixes.

Moonshine Steppas – “Inna Zion”

It’s been 4 years since the last Moonshine Steppas’ big release with top-a-top artists (http://dubmassive.org/4161/dubowa-kolaboracja-moonshine-steppas). But the joined forces of Moonshine Recordings and Steppas Records returns with another great release. We get the track “Inna Zion”, created by Vibration Lab with roots legend Linval Thompson, in several different flavours. The concept is quite interesting – each artist first presents a dub version and the a remix. The original one is a nice and moody reggae tune, stressed mainly in the middle part – melodic key chords guide us the whole time. Then Dub Dynasty shifts it into a hypnotizing, earthshaking steppers in their unique and recognisable style. On the B side the musical journey begins with RSD, who turns into more raw drum&bass vibe with massive horns snippets. Finally Jstar presents heavy digital vibes inna dubstep flavour with nice synth part.

I guess I don’t have to mention about low frequencies – you know what to expect from these artists and you can turn up the subwoofers before listening.

Violinbwoy – “Mono County” EP (Moonshine Recordings)

We are very proud to present this work of our fellow countrymen. Violinbwoy’s debut 2×12” EP, released by Moonshine Recordings, is a perfect summary of his musical achievements so far. Everyone, who has heard Violinbwoy’s selection, knows how heavy, killer vibes he can produce. The first track from the release is a perfect illustration for this – absolutely mad steppers with a resonating bass and great, wild vocal of David OneAway. The next track “More Songs” with Dan I Locks brings some rest – a bouncy riddim with a nice trumpet part gives you a chance to regenerate before “Hold Unto Jah” with Dan I. This dub roller with deep vibe is the most meditative tune of this EP. Finally we get “Mammoth Lakes” with violin sounds at the beginning and it’s melody guide us further into deep and powerful dub steppa – the dub version of this one amazing. Truth to say, when I listen to all these tracks I really enjoy the hand of true musician – great, non-boring compositions filled with melodies, well-balanced with the effects and low frequencies.

A “must have” for all serious dubheads!

Junior Dread – “Wonderful Feeling” (Gorgon Sound ) / “Freedom” (DJ Madd)

Junior Dread is already well-known artist, who has cooperated with Cubiculo Records, Reality Shock, Mungos Hi Fi or Dubateers. Thanks to his a little bit hoarse voice and conscious lyrics he gains hearts both listeners and producers. Moonshine Recordings label likes to polish up such diamonds and this time they have done it with the help of Gorgon Sound and DJ Madd. The former has remixed Junior’s “Wonderful Feeling”, sending this tune straight to the soundsystem arenas; definitely this begs for a dub version! On the other hand Dj Madd sends “Freedom” into dubstep and jungle areas.

Dubdadda “Lo-Fi Pon De Hi-Fi” reissued on vinyl!

This is a great news! Thanks to Moonshine Recordings Dubadda’s solo album “Lo-Fi Pon De Hi-Fi” is now available on vinyl. Mostly known from his works with Zion Train, in 2004 Dubdadda composed, recorded and released (CD) this great music in his own label Dub Hooligan Records. In my opinion this is one of the best dub albums from 2000s, with unique, distinct sound, great energy and lyrics, all of this coming from such charismatic dub personality.

A mandatory position in dub education, period.

Sekkleman ft Baptiste & Serocee – “Lightman / 18 Dromilly Ave” (Moonshine Recordings)

Moonshine Recordings label explores dub all over the world – this time invites to a journey to Australia, where extraordinary producer Sekkleman comes from. Also known as Livewire, he mostly makes jungle and a lot of remixes. On the Moonshine’s release he shows his new face, inspired by dub. In conjunction with vocal of Baptiste, known among others from cooperation with Kanka, we get a powerful tune with a fast, rhythmic chat, also we get a remix additionally. The second track of the release is “18 Dromilly Ave” – joined forces of Sekkleman with MCs Serocee and Baptiste give a brilliant effect. In the tune they pay tribute to King Tubby, particularly to his studio, which was located at 18th Ave Dromilly. I have the impression that if King Tubby lived in our times, his dubs would sound like these one. In addition we also have a dub version, where you can hear echoes of King Tubby productions.

Moonshine Recordings with two 12”

Moonshine Recordings label has just presented us their two fresh releases: Madplate Sound – a modern approach to the steppers style and Jacky Murda&Tuffist – Mikal Rose and Levi Roots in a dubstep sauce.

Bristol-based Madplate Sound on his debut 12” is vocally supported by Dan from Imperial Sound Army and Violinbwoy with a remix/dub version, which adds an amazing flavour to the production. Definitely this 12” gives energy in this running world, besides the second release acts the same – we hear influences of dubstep and drum&bass. On the flip side a jungle version waits on us and surely it will conquer a lot of dancefloors.
