[Review] The Grinders – “Liar Liar” ft. Carlton Livingston (Down The Bush Records)

dtb011-the-grinders-liar-liar-ft-carlton-livingstonThe Grinders, who has already been presented on our site,  (https://dubmassive.org/en/?s=grinders) are planning a new album in October and presented 7” single is an extract from the LP.

“Liar Liar” ft. Carlton Livingston is a nice moody, bassy reggae tune shipped with also very nice versions: a lovely old-fashion dubwise one, a crazy jungle mix and a powerful steppers style.

All sounds really good and I definitely like the idea of many different versions here. Looking forward for the full album!

The Grinders – “Dub Forces in Session”

The Grinders – “Dub Forces in Session”

DTB010Crazy duo of The Grinders is back in action! Some time ago we wrote about their album (http://dubmassive.org/8254/the-grinders-under-arrest) and this time they take us to a journey of music and film. The whole concept of the album is related to the legendary film “Star Wars, so every fan of this saga must hear how dub competes with well-known motifs. A rub a dub “Original Lord Vader” opens the EP, then we are attacked by a quite dark “Digital Vader”, slightly falling into ragga climates. InGanja force” we are hit by a heavy bass, a dub atmosphere and the melody of  “imperial march. At the end we get a Don’t mess with Jabba,” a digital reggae with vocals by Jabba. To sum up –  I have never been a fan of the “Star Wars, but this interpretation of the topic convinces me to catch up on watching.

The Grinders – “Under Arrest”

The Grinders – “Under Arrest”

the grinders_album03.inddProbably not many knows The Grinders, I’m not suprised to be honest – I have discovered them recently and with great joy I report to you about new release of this duo, which makes music in rub-a-dub fashion. It is also another crew, which try to join modern vibes with classics and top vocals help them – undisputed master Ranking Joe on strong hip-hop riddim, the first lady of classic dancehall Lady Ann at her best and Tippa Irie, who has been a little bit unseen lately. We have amazing version Sizzla’s tune with Squdily Cole on this album – definitely for bass lovers, but having a little in common with dub. For fans of classics we got excellent “Living in the jungle” Squildy Cole & Tabby Diamond from Mighty Diamonds. At the end we have several dub versions, two of which deserves attention – “Trample Down Babylon” and “Let Me Rock you” with U-Brown vocal parts (who a year earlier recorded his full album with The Grinders).
