[Release info] Earl 16 / Bisweed / Chaozlevel – “Righteous Groove” (Strictly Dub Records)

[Release info] Earl 16 / Bisweed / Chaozlevel – “Righteous Groove” (Strictly Dub Records)

A-SDRV7003Good news from Tallinn, Estonia! The next release from Strictly Dub Records brings well-known and wonderful voice of Earl Sixteen on the extraordinary steppers riddim made by Bisweed, followed by dub version in a slow, deep and heavy fashion.

“We return with our next release and at this time we proudly present a local production by a young Estonian musician – Bisweed. At this time we issue a 45 record on the A side of which there is a vocal support by the living legend Earl 16 with a song called “Righteous Groove”, and on the B side, an exclusive dub mix called “Righteous Melodica” by the head of label Simon Chaozlevel and melodica played by Bisweed.

Bisweed hasn’t yet worked with dub music but over the last years he has established himself as a potential dubstep producer. His skills though help him record vocals, classical dub melodica and a dub mix with ease. Since Bisweed is mostly inspired by the British dub music, on the A side of the record you can hear disconcertingly dark, deep and heavy sub and a strict stepper beat. However the horn section in the chorus parts adds composition a delightful elevation and melodiousness. Earl Sixteen’s legendary voice wafts through the rough and tough riddim. The roots and culture lyrics add this creation even more harmony and balance.

Since we are trying to keep classical tradition, we have a dub version on B side. The version differs from original much: it’s much more raw, it’s not a stepper, the expanded bass gives the music more meditational atmosphere while melodica played by Bisweed clinks just at the right moments. Light and minimalistic percussions by Simon Chaozlevel add rhythmical allure to the composition. Righteous Melodica! Music on the both sides was composed, arranged and mixed by Bisweed in his studio in Tallinn, Estonia. Earl Sixteen had a record session in Birmingham, UK, in Friendly Fire Studio. The mastering sound quality and lacquer cut is guaranteed by Sam from Precise Mastering. Simon Chaozlevel recorded the dub version and made everything possible issuing this wonderful record for you! You won’t often hear a combo of dub from Tallinn and a Jamaican singer!”

Ostróda Reggae Festival // 11-14.08.2016 // Ostróda

Ostróda Reggae Festival // 11-14.08.2016 // Ostróda

orf15 years of consistency in building the mark, unique atmosphere, professional production & promotion, extensive and diverse program are the main features of Ostróda Reggae Festival, the leading Polish event promoting the musical vibration out of Jamaica.

In 2015 the festival celebrated its 15th anniversary, for the third time taking place at the “Red Military base”, abandoned military complex in the centre of Ostróda town in the north of Poland. The round anniversary enjoyed serious media coverage not only in Poland, but also abroad. First time the festival hosted the “uncrowned king of European reggae”, Gentleman, with his (and Jamaican Raging Fyah) shows broadcasted on the Polish National TV. First edition of “World Reggae Contest”, supported by main global portal Reggaeville.com and historical Jamaican Harry J Studios, ended up with more than 100 bands from all around the world applying to the contest and 5 performing at the festival main stage in the final show, live video streamed on internet. The winners, UK group Chainska Brassika in January 2016 completed the main prize – a recording session in Jamaica.
Protoje (Jamaica), Capleton (Jamaica), Black Roots (UK/Jamaica), Richie Campbell (Portugal) with their 2015 performances added to the extensive list of top world’s reggae artists at the festival over the years. Ostróda has been also a place of a long string of leading Polish reggae bands, as well as international producers, singers and sound systems bringing the vibes to Green Stage, main Polish DJs place. The promoters put high attention to educational activities with the Reggae University, a meeting place with authorities of reggae music and movie screenings. Dancehall workshops and African drumming classes enjoyed interest from fans, so happened to the creative children zone in the festival area. Ostróda Reggae Festival invariably has a reputation of culturally creative event – promotes young artists & all new trends, taking care of explanation of the reggae culture background and its positive attitude.
With the multi-aged audience of thousands, enriched with a large and diverse group of newcomers from abroad and excellent reviews in the media worldwide, the festival once again confirmed its position at the forefront of the global events of this type. Its production level is considered also above the standards of many renowned European festivals.
In 2014 the festival was the place for the official Polish celebrations of the Jamaica’s 50th anniversary of independence and honored by the presence of Jamaican diplomatic corps.
The promoters of the festival were honored with “Merit for Polish Culture” awards by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage in 2014.
City of Ostróda, known as the “Pearl of Masuria”, with Masuria being a district of Poland called “the land of 1000 lakes”, is surrounded by beautiful lakes. It is considered great for water sports and tourism. The local hotel infrastructure is very developed. Ostróda Reggae Festival with its relaxing character and international recognition is one of the most crucial cultural attractions in summer season.

Currently, the preparations are underway for the next 16th edition of the Ostróda Reggae Festival, planned for 11th-14th Aug 2016.

“Walk The Walk” The Webserie by Brain Damage & Wasaru

“Walk The Walk” The Webserie by Brain Damage & Wasaru

teaserThe last album of Brain Damage “Walk the Walk” is a exciting musical meeting with Jamaican legends – Horace Andy, Kiddus I, Willi Williams, Winston McAnuff and Ras Michael. Now we can watch 8 video episodes, which were recorded during their meeting in Jamaica.

All episodes can be watched here, (French and English subtitles available)

http://brain-damage.fr/videos/wtw-the-webserie/

“With a rich discography of more than 11 albums behind him, Martin Nathan ventures into many artistic and stylistic experiments, under the name of Brain Damage. Acclaimed as one of the founders of the French dub scene, he has spent 15 years alternating between solo projects and music collaborations (High Tone, Vibronics, Sir Jean) in order to establish the roots of his musical art.

2015 he realized in Kingston, Jamaica, the main part of his “Walk The Walk”, to delve more deeply into the dub origins. His friendship with Samuel Clayton Jr, sound engineer and internationally recognized producer (Steel Pulse / Toots & the Maytals) opened the door of the legendary Harry J Studio (Bob Marley / Burning Spear), and offered him the opportunity to attend some interesting meetings and to work, during unforgettable studio sessions with artists such as Horace Andy, Kiddus I, Willi Williams, Winston McAnuff and Ras Michael : five legends, five veterans of the genre, all contemporaries, but with totally diverse sensibilities and backgrounds. For the span
of one studio session, all of them succeed in blending into the musical universe suggested by Brain Damage, and undertake the stylistic exercise submitted by the artist: writing most of their lyrics on the theme of their childhood, the childhood, youth and education. The outcome of these meetings is unique, a singular combination of maturity and genuineness, doubtless resulting from the open-mindedness and talents of each protagonist. And the « Walk the Walk » album was released late 2015 on Jarring Effects label.

The director Wasaru joined him during his journey in Jamaica. This was a great opportunity for him not only to create and artistic work but also to hear these legends narrate their childhood memories. It had a heritage value. In these 8 episodes of the web-serie « Walk the Walk » we can find way more than this opus genesis and legends, as a photograph of the 60s and 70s Jamaican life, anecdotes, mythical events of the island (Bob Marley, Peter Tosh) and intimate confessions.”

ROOTS REVIVAL HI POWER SOUNDSYSTEM / Warszawa

DJ Leo (Soul Deep Roots of Reggae / Warszawa)

Aktualne fascynacje Leo to jamajski soul i funk, i prawdopodobnie z takiej selekcji będziemy mogli się spodziewać podczas XXV Dub Mass w Gdańsku.

pandadreadPandadread Soundsystem to półtoratonowa tuba propagandowa, skupiająca wokół siebie selektorów i wokalistów z Trójmiasta i okolic. Operatorzy sound systemu bratrat i DHS, czerpiąc pełnymi garściami z tradycji muzyki jamajskiej, w swojej selekcji eksperymentują z jej współczesnymi, elektronicznymi wcieleniami.
