Marina P – “My homeys” (LP)

Marina P – “My homeys” (LP)

My Homeys FrontThere isn’t too many women in the dub-reggae world, but if there are any they sing outstandingly and cooperate with the best producers. One of them is Marina, who has just released her second solo album. She is the second woman after Soom T to spread her wings thanks to Mungos HiFi. Marina started her career in Italy and then moved to Paris and finally met guys from Scotland and recorded “Divorce a l’italienne”, one of hits often hearable from soundsystem stacks. It took her 5 years to record the album, which is produced by such reggae-dub aces like Mungo’s HiFi, Stand High Patrol, Jahtari, DJ Madd, ODG, Stepart or Soul Vybz. Marina P has a beautiful, soulish voice, but you can also hear a characteristic “claw” in it. She can sing softly, but as well she can flow on dubstep or ragamuffin riddim. This album isn’t too consistent – variety of the producers made it diversified – but it shows the versatility of the talented vocalist.

Dubquake Records presents: Weeding Dub&O.B.F. (12”)

Dubquake Records presents: Weeding Dub&O.B.F. (12”)

front cover dubquake rec001To celebrate the Dubquake event, which takes place in Geneva since 2006, OBF Sound System decided to launch his own label to release songs that have been “tested” there. For a start we have Weeding Dub with vocalist Inja in a track entitled “Judgment” (known also from the Weeding Dub longplay) – it is a powerful tune embedded in a French dubs esthetics with Inja’s rap, which on the one hand, adds to its speed, but with the other may not suit taste of listeners, who like more melodic dubs. The other side of the 12” belongs to the originators O.B.F. – “Echo dub” is a solid, 12-ton roller to mash up the dance floor and was many times tested on Dubquake. If you like “Forward dub”, you will love this tune.

Vibronics – three 10” promoting new album

Vibronics – three 10” promoting new album

bd2abd3abd1a

We recently wrote about the new album by Vibronics and Brain Damage and now Jarring Effects released three 10″ vinyls with tracks from the album. The first one contains “Seige Of Kut” and “Neuve Chapelle” – instrumental tracks with strong winds. On the second one you can find two vocal tunes – dynamic “Do You Remember” sung by Sir Jean and “Youts To War” with Parvez – more moody and calm. On the last one Pavez shows up again in “Sufferation” and on the other side you can find “Kings Engine” with Madu Messanger

Radikal Guru – “Subconscious” (CD/LP)

Radikal Guru – “Subconscious” (CD/LP)

artworks-000061969838-gyompk-t500x500Countdown is over, we don’t have to wait anymore for second Radikal Guru’s longplay intriguingly called “Subconscious”!!! Yes, it has been two years since the release of the “Rootstepa”, although the artist pleases us with his music pretty often – at least once a year he releases a single or makes a remix for somebody else. However, the full album attracts even more, and by the way creates concerns about the direction it is going to head to and if it’s going to be as good as the previous one. All of the doubts have been resolved. Right after the first few bars “Subconscious” (the opening tune “Earthwalker”) shows that Radikal is in a good shape. And so, thirsty of low frequencies, I get 10 tough tunes – three with promising guests: YT, Danman, Echo Ranks – only their names send shivers up my back, and the mentioned two of them are considered by me as leading sound system microphone warriors. About the single – “warning” with Echo Ranks you could have already read on our website. Back then I thought that a single like that raises the bar high for the whole album, but what I have heard on “Subconscious” broke me out of my shoes. YT in tune named “Stay Calm” showed his own style and fitted perfectly to the calm rhythm. Danman in “Know Yourself” presented a lyric that I have already heard on an Iration Steppas party and when I heard it again on the album i couldn’t pick myself up for the next few minutes. One would say – only 3 vocal tunes per 10 in total – but 3 vocalists of high class like that is a lot. Radikal deserves an applause for urging them to join his album (although he probably didn’t have to trouble too much, as he is a well known producer on the dub scene). As for the rest of the tracks – eponymous “Subconscious” deserves attention, it reveals Radikal’s fascination of jungle, what doesn’t disturb and even spices the whole thing up – just like in “Wicked Dub” where we can hear the typical sound that could also be heard in productions by Mark Iration (so nice!). “Indra” takes us into India, the next musical fascination of the hero of that review; “Different dub” put me in a trance; “Spaced out” and “Outernational” are tunes in Radikal’s typical style. The whole album is full of bass, although it could be not enough for dubstep fans, but for me it’s just perfect – the direction he went to is ideal for me, more into dub and with a huge respect to the roots. Ladies and gentlemen – I recommend you to buy the new album of our national dub pride!

Dubble feat. Dan Man – “Politricks” (10”)

Dubble feat. Dan Man – “Politricks” (10”)

dt003 sticker A

Some time ago we have presented records from Dubble with Molara on vocals. And here they again give us a musical bomb with Dan Man as a vocalist, who is known in Poland for cooperating with Radikal Guru. Dubble will play on Dub Temple in Cracow in two weeks thanks to Dubseed. The eponymous tune is a tough dub steppers with a drilling bass and Danman’s vocals reproaching politicians flaws. Of course there is a dub version which I consider better than the original one – vestigial vocals, echo and bass making me feel like if I were in the outer space. On the other side of the album there is a known tune “Rise Up”, which appeared on Dub Iration Soundsystem’s “The Lost Books of Dub” and a dub version, which is energetic and reminds of Gorgon Sound creations, what undoubtedly is a big plus.

I am glad that the Croatian will show up in poland and I am sure that they will make an unforgettable show.

Mic Ah Bun (EP)

Mic Ah Bun (EP)

[4WDRCD004] coverThe Italian are operating well on the world dub scene for a long time, it’s enough to mention netlabel medleys Italian Dub Community, which show us variety and power of Italian dub. EP that i am going to introduce today is the best proof of it. Two strong players made it in cooperation – Dziga and MrDill Lion Warriah. Both of them have netlabel releases on their accounts – Dziga (producer) worked i.a. for netlabel of French fresh-poulp.net and the vocalist MrDill Lion Warriah recorded for 4weed.net. Recently, we published a reviwe of a single with his contribution “Roots fanatics”. On Mic Ah Bun, among the two mentioned artists, you can hear French producer Krak In Dub from Fogata Sound, with great, more dub-ish version of the original tune (excellent for sound systems), better from Dziga’s creation in my opinion – more electronical, with heavy dubstep accents. As for MrDill Lion warriah he chatted on a high level, the lyric telling about warriors that fight using the words and microphone gloriously matches the music. Follow the productions of the Italian dubheads because they release many pearls, just as in the France.

Dubkasm – “Victory” on vinyl from tomorrow (12″)

Dubkasm – “Victory” on vinyl from tomorrow (12″)

Screen Shot 2013-10-23 at 11.51.27

Many have been waiting for this moment! “Victory”, an amazing track by Dubkasm with beautiful, hotting up and knocking out winds will be available on vinyl from tomorrow! This track had it’s premiere over a year ago on Nothing Hill Carnival in London, where sound systems often play special tunes, prepared only for them, for the fist time. So it was in 2012 – at the corner of East Row and Southern Row, where Aba Shanti-I sets out his stacks for years. By the end of the day a big part of listeners had been waiting to see what Aba is gonna serve as the last tune. Finally that time came, he said “last one” to the microphone. And it began – at first without the bass, winds melody filled the street and swinging people to suddenly transform into a cannonade of sounds, elating all of the people. I managed to catch that moment:

The reaction of the people was amazing… and that excitement has been repeating during the next few months, anywhere Dubkasm or Aba Shanti appeared:

And finally, after a year of waiting that tune will be available on 12″ vinyl! You can order the disc from tomorrow on site http://rwdfwd.com/. Victory!

Bunnington Judah & Full Dub – “Jah Will Guide” (7”)

Bunnington Judah & Full Dub – “Jah Will Guide” (7”)

d7005-large

It’s 5th release of French label Dubatriation Records by now and just as the previous ones, this one also represents a high level. “Jah Will Guide” is a heavy, climatic steppers produced by French dubmaster Full Dub. The lyric telling about spirit guidance of Jah is sung by Bunnigton Judah. That tune is mystic and deep, with a rich arrangement full of digital synthesizers and melodica. Meditational mood on one hand and on the other one – a heavy steppers rhythm and a lot of effects. Plus a very spacial and clear mix, specific to all of the productions from this label.

What can I say more – modern dub on the highest level.
