Beam Up – “Astronomy Dub/Hanabi Dub” (7”)

Beam Up – “Astronomy Dub/Hanabi Dub” (7”)

artworks-000059475996-hni53a-t200x200

Nowadays there aren’t many producers making classic dub, but there is a group of crazy lovers of 70s dub sounds. Beam Up (Dj Delay) is one of these people and Beaming Productions label has just released his 7″. The first side – “Astronomy dub” – is a meditational tune perfect to listen when watching the sky, kept in classic 70s dub style. The second side is “Hanabi dub” with Terrence Bowry on vocals, whose singing also reminds of that times. I encourage you to discover Dj Delay’s output – he’s outstanding artist on the dub scene. Check his other releases like “Brass Wires & Bass” or “Terra Sonica”.

Alpha Steppa & Joe Ariwa & Lee Scratch Perry – “Open door”

Alpha Steppa & Joe Ariwa & Lee Scratch Perry – “Open door”

AS0813-Digital-Artwork

That’s right – young dubheads remix classic tune “Open door” with characteristic voice of Lee Perry on a riddim made by Mad Professor. This tune has been remixed by Alpha&Omega in their heavy style with a brilliant melodica. This is how it looked in the past, now it’s 2013 and the tune gets new coloring and a boost of modernity. Alpha Steppa (son of Alpha&Omega duet) and Joe Ariwa (son of the master Mad Professor) are responsible for the new version. Alpha did it in his own style, connecting Lee Perry’s voice with a heavy rhythm and a subtle melodica, so it’s comparable to the creation of Alpha&Omega, but there is also a surprising version with bass and space, which i love in dub; and that ra ta ta ta ta (whatever it means, it’s beautiful). The next 2 versions made by Joe Ariwa also represent his recognizable style. As for me they don’t shine – they seem to similar, but maybe it’s just my impression. I like his experiments with the dubstep, but I see no fireworks in this approach. To sum up – I am for interpretting classics, especially if it’s done by good producers. I recommend it to everyone, the crazy ra ta ta ta ta will stay in the speakers for a long time.

New releases from Black Legacy Records

New releases from Black Legacy Records

legacy ep's

Soon there will be 2 new EPs from Black Legacy Records available in the shops. The first one contains Keety Roots’ vocals and on the second one you can hear Mike Brooks. All of the compositions, besides “International Soldier” are kept in a rather calm, uk roots climate. Tunes represent characteristic Keety’s style – heavy rhythmic accents, clearly standing out in the mix based on a solid bassline and supported by frugal sounds of the winds, guitars, keys and sloppy digital instruments.

Kaly Live Dub – “Allaxis”

Kaly Live Dub – “Allaxis”

kaly-live-dub_cover

It’s been 3 years since last release by Kaly Live Dub from France, their album “Lightin’ The Shadow” was excellent – I often play the tune with Biga Ranx on parties – mainly the crazy dub version, so i’ve been waiting too se what will they show us. And there we have 10 tunes that have a lot of strength – the band plays live dub with a deep dubstep accents, in which the bass pierces every part of the body … literally. This time there is only one vocalist Leroy Green (singing in 3 tunes) and he does a good job. The album is musical vision of the French who flow between dub and dubstep… maybe “flow” is a bad word to describe it – they hit you with a massive sound, which will stay in us for a long time. My favourite tracks are “Run and go hide” (the essence of their style), “Can I make a wish” and “No bother jump”. Those are the calmest tunes on the album, but they have a heavy foundation created by the bass. That album is a proof that music doesn’t have any limits and it can do some damage, I recommend it to people open to experiments and to dubstep fans to hear how it’s done by a live band.

Podsumowanie przęglądu filmów reggae w Krakowie (“Positive Vibration. I Przegląd Filmów Reggae”)

Podsumowanie przęglądu filmów reggae w Krakowie (“Positive Vibration. I Przegląd Filmów Reggae”)

Sorry, this entry is only available in Polish. For the sake of viewer convenience, the content is shown below in the alternative language. You may click the link to switch the active language.

Panda Dub ft. Daddy Freddy, Brother Culture & Kali Green – “Lent Roots Pour Chant” EP

Panda Dub ft. Daddy Freddy, Brother Culture & Kali Green – “Lent Roots Pour Chant” EP

LION'S DEN - Cover

Newly created label called Lion’s Den has just released a 12″ album by French producer Panda Dub. He specializes in heavy steppers tunes with rich arrangements – it’s the same way this time. The mix was done by Roommate, and the riddim was filled with lyrics by a legendary soundbwoy Daddy Freddy, Brother Culture who used “Dance Teng” lyric from 1985 and Kali Green, who calls us to live consciously. Lastly, there is a dub version with mix of the vocals and a strong bass piercing the whole body. It all guarantees us  a soundsystem hit. We can congratulate Lion’s Den on their great debut and wish that their every release has been on such an amazing level!

Weeding Dub – album “Inna Digital Age” soon available

Weeding Dub – album “Inna Digital Age” soon available

Weeding Dub - Inna Digital Age

A lot of dub lovers can recognize Weeding Dub from France. That producer born in Lille is renowned for many interesting productions and collaborations – lately we wrote about his 12″. On 7th of october there will be available his newest longplay titled “Inna Digital Age” in the shops. It will include 15 tunes kept in modern dub stylistics with roots basis – it’s nice to hear that the artist doesn’t try to hide digital nature of the tracks, but finds balance in them. The release also unveils the versatility of the producer – we can find on it fast digital tunes (“Believe In YRSLF” with Little R or crazy “Judgment remix” with hiphop-ish toasting by Inja), classic digital steppers (“Jah Set You Free” with Diana Levi or “Fyah A Go Bun Dem” with Echo Ranks) and even contemplative tunes like “Rootikal Road” with Fu Steps, “African Step” with beautiful winds by Houseman Horns or a great guitar ballad “Brick by Brick” sung by Madu Messanger. Besides the tunes with vocals we get ofcourse classic dub versions and miscellaneous instrumentals – heavy dub lovers will like “Dub For Gaza” especially.
To sum up – a great, varied album, that shows creativity and versatility of the producer.

Radikal Guru – “Warning”

Radikal Guru – “Warning”

artwork

Radikal Guru and Moonshine Recordings present us “Warning” – the first single from forthcoming Radikal’s album titled “Subconscious”, which is to be released in the November. It contains remixes from Violinbwoy and Dubkasm, what shows us, that Poland has strong representatives on the dub scene. It’s also good to hear the information about Radikal’s second album – judging from the single there will be a lot of good stuff on it.

Back to the release – you can hear the voice of Echo Ranks, who feels the production in 100%. As of the remixes: Violinbwoy, specialized in steppers, gets better all the time and already presents a high level. Dubkasm made a typical dubwise with a bunch of reverbs and echoes in a meditative style. There is nothing else to do than buy the single and wait for another Radikal’s miracles, I am already counting down.
