“Dumbarton Rock is a brand new rub-a-dub label which pays homage to the foundation masters while bringing a breath of fresh air to them. It is named after the ancient capital of Alt Clud, the last stronghold of the Britons, frequented by King Arthur, Merlin and St Mungo. Now Mungo has returned with some crucial cuts brought back from Jamaica, featuring live instruments, tape mastering and vocalists with vibes. Ranking Joe, Shanti D, Ranking Levy and Cheshire Cat set a torch to vanity and greed.
The two 7” singles are limited to a 500 hand numbered press. They will only be shipped direct from Scotland www.scotchbonnet.net – no digital, vinyl only, no repress.”

mtr-12-002AForthcoming 12” from Med.Tone Records brings us a great roots anthem “If It Wasn’t For Jah” with a soulful voice and rasta lyrics by Anthony Selassie . The riddim is made in a steppers style and carries maximum uplifting vibes. The dub version featuring Med Tone All Stars Band follows a good old dubwise fashion. On the B side we have true veteran Ranking Joe, who is deejaying strong lyrics about politicians. An additional instrumental version is kept in nyabinghi style with I Jah Salomon’s saxophone.

[DS-SP001] Artwork - FrontAfter very successful  albums (http://dubmassive.org/tag/tour-de-force) Tour De Force crew once again shows us how to be fresh and visionary on the musical market. This time they invited to cooperation legendary DJ Ranking Joe, whose chatting and toasting skills are continuously on a very high level and always carry a conscious, Rastafari message.

In “Back to Africa” he talks about slavery and a spiritual return to the motherland. This serious lyrics is based on a militant, heavyweight steppers with strong horns, classic reggae/dub with solid bass and Tour De Force’s unique style, known since their first releases. On “Battle Cry Remixed” they showed their support for different artists from many musical areas, so it is also on this release – Doctor Jeep’s dancfloor-driven, deep breakbeat remix transforms this rhythmical tune into wild trance beat.

the grinders_album03.inddProbably not many knows The Grinders, I’m not suprised to be honest – I have discovered them recently and with great joy I report to you about new release of this duo, which makes music in rub-a-dub fashion. It is also another crew, which try to join modern vibes with classics and top vocals help them – undisputed master Ranking Joe on strong hip-hop riddim, the first lady of classic dancehall Lady Ann at her best and Tippa Irie, who has been a little bit unseen lately. We have amazing version Sizzla’s tune with Squdily Cole on this album – definitely for bass lovers, but having a little in common with dub. For fans of classics we got excellent “Living in the jungle” Squildy Cole & Tabby Diamond from Mighty Diamonds. At the end we have several dub versions, two of which deserves attention – “Trample Down Babylon” and “Let Me Rock you” with U-Brown vocal parts (who a year earlier recorded his full album with The Grinders).

FC14To już czwarty studyjny album Dub-hedów z Brazylii, a przewrotnie nazwano go #1. Dig–Ital-Dubs odwiedzili nas rok temu w Ostródzie, gdzie towarzyszyli samemu Ranking Joe, a dziś, dzięki magazynowi Free Colours, mamy fantastyczny album w odtwarzaczach. Składa się z 13 kawałków, które dają około godziny dubowej wycieczki do Brazylii, Jamajki, a także Wielkiej Brytanii. Każdy z kawałków to solidne reggae z mocnymi dubowymi akcentami. Wśród nich znalazł się hit „Fyah bun dem” z legendarnym Ranking Joe, który pojawia się w ostatnim kawałku na płycie „Justice and equality”. Z uznanych gwiazd mamy tu także Earl Sixteena w „pirackiej grze”  oraz Brinsleya Forda z Aswadu. Nie zabrakło także brazylijskich wokalistów DaddaYute, Jeru Banto, Tiano Bless, a w wersji instrumentalnej płytę wspomógł Digistep z Dubkasmu. Ta płyta to podsumowanie kilku ostatnich lat działalności Dig-Ital-Dubs, w których słuchać echa brazylijskich korzeni. Nie pozostaje mi nic innego jak podziękować ludziom z Free Colours za taką niespodziankę, a wszystkich, którzy jeszcze nie mają tej płyt zachęcam, by czym prędzej pobiegli do empików i zakupili to cudo!

Ps. Przy okazji polecam cały jubileuszowy numer Free Colours. Pismo ma już 5 lat (gratulacje!!!), a w nim m.in. artykuły o Zebrze, Dig-Ital-Dubs, wywiady z Roots Revivial, The Vision.

charlieOd kilku miesięcy można zaobserwować na scenie dubowej ruch młodych artystów, ja skupię się na wokalistach. Dwójka szalonych młodych głosów to Brytyjczyk – Charlie P oraz hmmm Francuz, o polsko brzmiącym nazwisku – Gabriel Piotrkowski aka Biga Ranx.

Charlie P, młodzieniaszek, który pojawia się zarówno na imprezach z Dubateers jak i na ich płytach, swoim głosem powala częstokroć starych wyjadaczy, a skalę głosu to on ma. Nieraz gdy go słyszę pojawiają się ciary na plecach i pojawia się pytanie jak on to robi! Oby go mutacja nie zjadła. Wielka szkoda, że nie mógł pojawiać się w Polsce na sesji Dubateers, bo jak na razie była by to jedyna okazja usłyszeć go w Polsce. Szukajcie jego singli, tym bardziej, że pojawia się na nich nie z byle kim, bo np. z Ranking Joe, Bunningtonem Judah . Kto nie zna jego Oh Jah lub Policemana, niech to  jak najszybciej nadrobi.

Natomiast Biga Ranx jak na razie podbija Francję i robi to z wielką energią, występuje z On Dub Ground, pojawia się także na płycie Kanki jak i wrzuca do sieci niesamowite freestajle na rytmach Jah tubbys. Za każdym razem kiedy słucham jego nawijki nie potrafię w miejscu ustać. Gwarantuje, że poruszy każdego! Po spisie koncertów na jego myspace widać, że koncertuje z bardzo dużą częstotliwością, przynajmniej 2 razy w tygodniu.

Obydwaj pojawią się częściej na imprezach niż na wydawnictwach, ale myślę, że za niedługo się to zmieni. Bądźcie gotowi na atak młodych

4067053Digitaldubs, jak sami twierdza, są pierwszym sound systemem w Rio de Janeiro, a powstali w 2001 roku. Ich głównym zadaniem jest szerzenie reggae kultury w Brazylii. Skład tworzą Marcus “MPC”, Mr. Nelson & Talkmaster, posiadają własne studio nagrań oraz label Muzamba. Na ich rytmach nagrywali Ranking Joe, Earl 16, Tippa Irie, Brinsley Forde (Aswad), Daddy Freddy, Little Kirk, Lone Ranger, Sylvia Tella, Mr. Catra, B Negão, Dada Yute, Jeru Banton. Produkcje Digitaldubs pojawiły się już na składankach “Wordsound Made in Brasil”, “The Inspiring New Sounds of Rio de Janeiro”, “Roots of Dub Funk 5”, “Rough Guide to Brazilian Street Party” oraz na ścieżce dźwiękowej do filmu “Dub Echoes”. Na ich stronie jest podana dokładna dyskografia http://www.digitaldubs.com.br/digitaldubs/discos.html, lecz nie uwzględniła ostatniego wydawnictwa „Youth Samba”, na którym pojawia się Earl 16 oraz Brisnely Ford. Ich remix do utworu Zion Train-Baby Father ukazał się na płycie Zion Train-Live As One Remixes. Występować zaczęli w Rio de Janeiro by następnie zaatakować dubem inne miasta w całej Brazyli. Dzięki nim Brazylijczycy mogli usłyszeć i zobaczyć na żywo Zion Train, Mad Professora, Ranking Joe’a oraz Tippa Irie. W tym roku postanowili zarażać brazylijskim dubem Europę – odwiedzili Niemcy, Austrię, Anglię a także Ostródę gdzie zagrali wraz z legendą rub a dub Ranking Joe.

Wraz z Ranking Joe wydali singiel Fyah bun dem ,
gdzie wokalista manifestuje swoją miłość do Jah, zaś bit pędzi w rytm charakterystycznego rrrrrrrrr.
