[Review] “War Inna Babylone” / “Skank It Up” – Ras Mykha / K-Sänn Dub (Patate Records)

A massive electro-dub riddim in “War Inna Babylone”,  prepared by K-Sänn Dub,  runs madly with perfectly suited, dynamic flow and singing by Ras Mykha. The next tune won’t slower you down also. “Skank’ It”, as the name suggest, will transfer you (both lyrically and musically) to an energetic soundsystem dance.

Ras Mykha & Roots Ista Posse – “Rootikal Showcase” (Patate Records)

rootsBoth Roots Ista Posse as well as Ras Mykha are a heavyweight brand which we have mentioned not just once – http://dubmassive.org/tag/roots-ista-posse. This time we are proud to present their joint LP “Rootical Showcase” released by Patate Records. Twelve solid tunes inna heavyweight style, of course as befits soundsystem killers we get 6 vocal and 6 dub versions.

At the beginning like in Alfred Hitchock’s films we have an earthquake due to “Sound System Addict” about known subject. The next solid tune is “Watch I-Self”, which reminds me their big killer “Mighy Jahovia”. After this one Ras Mykha is asking “Are You Ready” to fight for revolution, then in “Heavy Load” they blow me away, both with heavy style and Ras Mykha’s vocal; the dub version is masterpiece. Fortunately Roots Ista Posse respects bodies of their listeners and they slow down a bit in “Falling” and thanks to a beautiful dub version you can give yourself over a meditation. In that way we reach the final track “This is my life” with beautiful lyrics and Ras Mykha’s singing.

A fantastic album for every fanatic of a heavyweight steppers style, solid basslines, great vocals and conscious lyrics.

Ras Mykha – Mighty Jahovia (10″)

936628_788665244493560_2052365783_nOn 15th of December another 10” by Roots Ista Posse and Cry in Soul Record has been released. The guests are Ras Mykha (vocals) and Shaky Norman (melodica). The French should be already known to public at large, we have mentioned their previous release too http://dubmassive.org/5561/wieza-kontrolna-nadaje/ This time we again have a strong tune with very good lyrics by Ras Mykha, who praises the lord. Musically it’s a solid steppers, pulsating and turning the listener into a meditative state. There also is a version containing Shaky Norman’s melodica, which makes that state even deeper. Besides, we have a dub version by Roots Ista Posse, which impresses a lot – melody that pierces the whole version makes you want to listen to it all the time. Additionally there is a version for vocalists.  That production presents very high level and confirms my belief (and probably not only mine) that French dub scene is the best in the world (not to unappreciated other scenes – i.e. the British one), this is the place where the most things happen and, what’s most important, they still have fresh approach to dub music.
