In the dub scene women are in minority – what a pity. Sista Sherin shows us on her album how the female voice pulls together with roots and dub music. You can ask who Sista Sherin is – she acts on German scene for ten years and records her tunes for Debter and Jah Free. She has often shown up with selectors – Shalamanda sound system (Austria), Jah Vibes (Germany), Jah Roots Hi-Fi (Switzerland) and many more. In her lyrics she spreads spiritual Rastafari message and the idea of spiritual revive carried by reggae music. Dub Soljah, known from Cultural Warriors Sound System (1998-2012), is responsible for the musical side of the album. He comes from Genewa, where he creates rhythms and mad remixes in UPfront Studio. The album itself, as the artist say, is a fruit of a mutual intensive amusement and work, as an effect of which they created 9 songs with Sista’s vocals and 9 dub versions. In the future they want to promote their work as Art’Ital Duet (Dub Soljah & Sista Sherin), and they want other vocalists to join them in collaborative gigs. During the production process Dub Soljah has been supported by Russ Disciples, Upfront Family, Kris Kemist, BackIIRoots and Rock Radio Hermes. My favourite tracks from the album are “Guiding Star” with a very good riddim called Disciples and “Sound System Rise”. The whole album is a shot of positive energy in roots and dub sauce and additionaly, or maybe above all, very pleasant, soft voice of Sista Sherin – without doubt Christine Miller has a great follower.
Over the last few days in the abyss of internet appeared the first official tune „Kalina in DUB – Julie’s journey to earth”. It is a teaser of a debut vinyl record from label TRANSMISSION RECORDINGS. The record will include 3 songs made by Kalina in DUB and one remix produced by Adam Faz. A mixture of dub sounds and modern, dubstep solutions that makes use of Jamaican foundation, but not lacking its slavic roots and even influence of jazz or Balkan music. Soon there will be a contest with Kalina records as a reward, so follow his profile and news about the project. You can support Kalina by voting for his video clip in YACH FILM 2013 contest.
The French aren’t slowing down and please us with 7″ record, which is a tribute to Channel One label. You can hear it right from the beginning – the sounds are swinging in digital, roots style and Pupajim magnetizes with his voice. On the second side of the record there is an instrumental version – I secretly hope that many of vocalists will make a good use of this wonderful riddim. Remember – for a lot of people the previous year were ruled by Stand High Patrol and it seems that the current one could be theirs too.

Every dubhead on the path of his musical exploration probably have heard of Alpha&Omega duet. Each of the modern producers lovers arguably recognises one of the best representants of the younger generation – Alpha Steppa.
As a result of conjunction of those two dub giants Dub Dynasty project has set off at the end of 2012. The released record (Alpha Steppa And Alpa & Omega Present: The Unrelenting Force of: Dub Dynasty) got a lot of appreciation and positive comments. Dub Dynasty has forged the noise and interest resulting from the names taking part in it into acclaim and respect of the fans.
We don’t present dubstep music on this website too often, and if it happens it is dubstep strongly influenced by reggae. It’s the same this time – Indidginus “Ruff Tuff” EP is an explosive mixture of drum’n’bass, dubstep and ragga spiced up with heavy, deep bass. Indidginus is a part of the scene since 1996 as a dj and producer. His gigs are lead in a way that pleases the listeners in 100% and makes them scream for more. Check out what he produced – tunes “Follow We” or “Wikkid and Wild” are pretending to be heave sound system killers, the two other tunes are on a high level too.

YES JAH, MUSIC WITHOUT ROOTS? NO WAY!! Roots Melody SOUND SYSTEM (Ras Qki, Mic Liper, JR) is an effective tool to spread positive, low vibrations and roots message, basis of which is unity and lack of any prejudices. It is a wall of speakers, sounding, selection and microphone operators and the whole rest of valuable associates, without which any session wouldn’t take place. That collective were born in 2011 in Pabianice in order to spread roots vibration. In 2012 as a result of hard work they have set up their speaker set.
Roots Melody is roots reggae, dub, uk dub selection and a form of acting inspired by great soundsystem masters from UK and Jamaica. It’s a strong sound of bass and drums delivered by their speakers, a rub-a-dub style message on the microphone and, above all, the people who assist the mission by moving their bodies to the rhythm of the music.

I accepted the invitation from my buddies to create a cycle about equipment and studio techniques with pleasure. Of course it applies mostly to producing dub and reggae, but nothing prevents me from sharing news and interesting information from beyond the dub scene.
In the beginning a little review of what dubmasters love the most – hardware delays and reverbs. I will share with you information about effects that I know and use, so let’s start. P.S. On the videos as an example I used a drumline programmed in BFD2 (a bit of compression and correction on the kick and hihat). The snare will be pinned on successive effects.
DELAYS
1.Roland Space Echo RE-201 Original Space Echo could be compared to a child. There are nice, bug free copies, but there are also beastly monsters that keep jamming. However, it got much better in Poland lately and we can enjoy great restoration services. One of the examples of this approach is Maciek Polak and his analogia.pl (well deserved advertisement). It’s pretty simple in use and I think everything was written about it already.
2. Roland Space Echo RE-20 (Cosm) RE-201 basically is a king and RE-20 is his far, but very similar grandchild. If anybody is looking for a good RE-201 emulation, he should take a look at this device. It sounds similar, but there is less of the dirty timbre than the original one. The controls and functions are the same, but it sounds slightly different than the reverb itself. An usefull function is a switch on the back panel that lets to send out of the device only the effect, or original signal with the effect.
3.Line 6 Echo Pro Line of green devices by Line 6 already got a cult status among musicians (especially delay DL4 – loved for the sound and hated for the quality of controls). the highest model of the series is elaborated here Echo Pro (it’s so good that I recorded a longer video and, if I wanted to show everything, it would even be enough for over a dozen minutes). Echo Pro is a delay with a lot of modes including LO-RES (with different setups) shown at the beginning, MULTI-TAP (in the end of video), ANALOG DELAY, TAPE DELAY and many, many more. 4. TC Electronic Flashback Delay A small, inconspicuous guitar effect (and not only) with great capabilities. TC Electronic is known of their reverbs and delays (TC Reverb 6000 or emulated 2290) and this small “toy” has been produced surprisingly well!! It includes many modes, starting on classic ones like ANA (analog), TAPE, LOFI (something like LO-RES in Line 6) up to 2290 and Tone Print. 2290 is a sound a’la The Edge (as you can see at the end of the video, it works well with snare). Tone Print is a function that enables loading presets prepared by guitarists and “magical” saving sounds set up with Apple devices (iPhone, iPad). It’s interesting that American Pro Guitar Shop in collaboration with TC Electronic produces modified version of that effect (http://proguitarshop.com/tc-electronic-alter-ego-delay.html) and of the reverb effect from this series that sounds amazingly well! 5. Electrix MO-fx I’m sorry, but I don’t figure it out… it’s more of a DJ effect. I heard that you can mount it in AKAI samplers (e.x. MPC 2000XL) but I haven’t seen it. Absolute madness, especially in turning modes on and off http://www.electrixpro.com/legacy.php
REVERBS
1. Vermona Retroverb Lancet
A surprising device made by a company known to some people of its old PA equipment or keyboard instruments (and to some not known at all…). It’s a conjunction of a spring reverberator and oscillator, filter and whatever else it is (details on manufacturer’s page http://www.vermona.com/index.php/en_retrolancet.html). This device is very solid, controls are made of high grade plastic and the potentiometers applied in some of the functions are trustworthy as well (and they don’t generate noise). An interesting function is the “thunder” – physical mechanism hits the spring (to substitute for the traditional kick in the guitar amp). Unfortunately, the reverb on that function isn’t send to the oscillator, so it loses a lot of what is desired in dub.
2. Yamaha Rev-7 A very good reverb! Unfortunately, the device bawls too much in the sample… Anyway, the effect is build very well. It doesn’t in dual mono mode, but it has effect EQ (working pretty nice!), mono/stereo switch, solid case and I/O on XLR sockets. It’s hard in use, but when you figure it out you go on like with that big function buttons.
