Cubiculo Records has not been releasing steppa tunes for a while, but they are back in a champion style. The riddim prepared by Bony Fly in his unique digital style with a fast beat and great arrangement (check him also on this release) has a really huge potential to rise a fire on dancefloors. Especially that Spanish singer Sr Wilson flows on it perfectly and smoothly. Next cuts to the original are riddim track and extended dub version full of effects.

Killa!

„Urban Mystic” is the 4th album of German MC Longfingah. The first sneak that this is the album of a singer is the list of the producers on the cover. The variety of artists (Zion Train, Adubta, Habesha, Dreadsquad to name just a few), who prepared the riddims, would also suggest that the MC is not scared to deal with any style connected to reggae music and you know this from the very first minutes of this album. Longfingah easily flows or chants on every riddim and he’s not losing his characteristic feature of his voice. Speaking of riddims, they are the big advantage of this LP – modern, urban styles, ranging from very nice raggamuffin or digital vibes to heavy bass and steppa bangers. The album is not embedded in one style but everything is connected through energetic, good vibe. Very enjoyable, both vocally and musically!

[Review] Trigram Six: Musai Soundworks – „Hoinar” / Alpha Steppa – „Ro Heath” (Steppas Records)

[Review] Trigram Six: Musai Soundworks – „Hoinar” / Alpha Steppa – „Ro Heath” (Steppas Records)

Alpha Steppa, who has already announced his next LP, in the meantime continues the Trigram series with tribal bass music.

Taoists believe that there are two opposing yet complementary forces in the natural world: yin and yang. Many natural dualities such as male and female, light and dark, high and low, hot and cold, water and fire and life and death are thought of as physical manifestations of the yin- yang concept. This ancient Eastern paradigm parallels the concept in modern physics of positive and negative forces creating the proton, the electron and the neutron. The Eight Trigrams of Steppas Records derive their inspiration from the ancient Book of Changes (The I-Ching), which states that the forces of yin and yang create the eight primordial features of the universe represented by the Eight Trigrams. Each Trigram is depicted as a symbol comprised of three lines, a straight line symbolises yang and a broken line symbolises yin. These eight symbols are representations of all naturally occurring processes, they represent movement and change. The Eight Trigrams of Steppas Records are an interpretation of the ever changing, myriad sounds of the universe: Forward thinking bass music with a deep roots foundation.

This is the idea behind the series and from the very beginning, it explores a vast universe of sounds; from one side connected to a mystical, tribal spirit, but delivered through modern musical forms on the other side and this is exactly what  Romanian artists Musai Soundworks and Alpha Steppa are doing on this release. Deep vibes derived from genres you know, but with a big part of raw, mysterious force.

[Review] Vibronics Meets Conscious Sounds – „Blaze A Fire” EP (Scoops Records)

After the excellent album „Half Century Dub”, Vibronics and Conscious Sounds thankfully continues their collaboration and musical journey. This EP is a natural extension of the LP, as here we get two last tracks in new mixes. These two tracks were marked „2010s” on the album, so you can assume what to expect… 'New school era of dub’ vibes with the additional vocal part of Sandeeno.

Powerful future dub to the max!

A very nice „gift” for Record Store Day 2017 has come from Mungo’s Hi Fi family. Old-school vibes provided by an original riddim with the „flying cymbals” drum pattern with a wonderful, nostalgic vocal of Johny Clarke, singing about the Glaswegian weather.

The spirit of King Tubby is flowing through the speakers from the very beginning and gets a full effect in the dub version.

[Review] ZamZam #51 / #52 (ZamZam Sounds)

[Review] ZamZam #51 / #52 (ZamZam Sounds)

Two recent releases from ZamZam Sounds should satisfy all fans of heavyweight dubs and both of them will do this in a different style. The releases number 51 brings two tracks of Systemwide; „Low Orbit”, remixed by Alter Echo”, delivers a message of the outer-space: a minimal but powerful bassline is a foundation for a universe of mysterious sounds and samples. This is the exploration of bass and dub universe which I love in ZamZam’s releases. The B side is Dubkasm’s remix of „Liberation” and it’s a deep, mystical steppers in the best style of the Bristol duo.

The release number 52 continues delivering heavyweight vibes. From a mysterious atmosphere, we’re moving to a sound system dance, where a powerful steppa riddim by Bukkha and Madplate Sound combined with the great voice of Junior Dread mashes the area – „Nada A Perder” („Nothing To Lose”) is a real dancefloor banger with a conscious message.

Homeys Records has recently released absolutely stunning EP. The main theme is the beautiful voice od Italian singer Marina P and a bassy, minimalistic riddim made by French producer KSD. The original vocal version and the riddim open this EP and settle a delightful mood which accompanies us through the rest of this release. After them we dive into sophisticated steppers version by TWM the atmosphere is not lost. The B-side brings next, absolutely great remixes – jazzy version by Stand High Patrol and two rootical style versions by Homeys with a flute part.

A subtle and gentle work of great artists – congratulations to all! I’m totally charmed with this EP since very first listening.

[Review] Von D – „Melki Tsedeq” / „Trip To Atlantis” (Moonshine Recordings)

[Review] Von D – „Melki Tsedeq” / „Trip To Atlantis” (Moonshine Recordings)

Moonshine Recordings release number 34 presents French artist Jérôme Meyer aka Von D, known already in the dub world from Khaliphonic (ZamZam) or Mungo’s Scrub-a-dub. Besides, three albums and multiple Eps for labels such as Black Acre, Boka or Argon and plenty of shows make his mark in the underground music.

The style presented here is a mixture of dubstep flavour and heavy dub with deep and spatial effects, creating a large soundscape. Both sides of this 12” bring us galloping and heavy steppers vibes with plenty of dub techniques applied, creating deep and meditative atmosphere.
