Violinbwoy – “Mono County” EP (Moonshine Recordings)

Violinbwoy – “Mono County” EP (Moonshine Recordings)

MS023DWe are very proud to present this work of our fellow countrymen. Violinbwoy’s debut 2×12” EP, released by Moonshine Recordings, is a perfect summary of his musical achievements so far. Everyone, who has heard Violinbwoy’s selection, knows how heavy, killer vibes he can produce. The first track from the release is a perfect illustration for this – absolutely mad steppers with a resonating bass and great, wild vocal of David OneAway. The next track “More Songs” with Dan I Locks brings some rest – a bouncy riddim with a nice trumpet part gives you a chance to regenerate before “Hold Unto Jah” with Dan I. This dub roller with deep vibe is the most meditative tune of this EP. Finally we get “Mammoth Lakes” with violin sounds at the beginning and it’s melody guide us further into deep and powerful dub steppa – the dub version of this one amazing. Truth to say, when I listen to all these tracks I really enjoy the hand of true musician – great, non-boring compositions filled with melodies, well-balanced with the effects and low frequencies.

A “must have” for all serious dubheads!

Archetype Records presents – Haspar

Archetype Records presents – Haspar

artworks-000139693521-e51uma-t500x500Archetype Records is already a widely respected label, especially for all deep&heavy vibes addicts and we’ve been writing about them several times (http://dubmassive.org/en/search/Archetype). The new release from this stable is a really big calibre – a heavyweight steppers made by Archetype’s representative Haspar. The A side with “Throw Them Back” holds very nice, soft voice of Madu Messenger and Haspar proves, how well he feels in heavyweight riddims. The B side contains “Legends” with 2 dub versions, which are perfectly cut out for the last tune, to finish late, alive skankers and fill them with energy till the next session.

Mystical Powa – Junior Dread/Sista Lore

Mystical Powa – Junior Dread/Sista Lore

indeksWe’ve already introduced you Mystical Powa crew in our articles http://dubmassive.org/en/search/mystical+powa. Here comes their 12″ which shows that Italian dub is going stronger strong. A side is “Warriors” by the great Junior Dread outta Brazil on the heavy stepper riddim inna roots fashion which doesn’t happen very often in days of digital dub. Side B comes with “Zion Valley” with Sista Lore on the vocal. Sweet melodies and melodical voice bring another precious vibe to this vinyl record. Looking forward for the 7th release out of Mystical Powa, which will come out very soon!

“My Music” by Dubkasm in dub

“My Music” by Dubkasm in dub

dubkasmTwo new releases from ZamZam Sounds are coming. Waiting for them we’re getting back to this one from the end of 2015. Original Dubkasm’s “My Music” with great vocal and lyrics by Solo Banton was really well acclaimed. But this tune came out without a dub version.  ZamZam crew were in touch with Dubkasm for some time and this was really nice occasion to bring some vibes together. This 7” contains not only the dub version of “My Music”, but also another one for “Never Let I Down” (also from “My Music” EP). Musically Dubkasm gives us absolutely sophisticated, hi-fi sounds with crystal clear, deep reverbs and echoes mixed with flying vocal snippets; all based on raw drum&bass foundation. Excellent art of dub for contemplative listening.

Jah Free on two releases

Jah Free on two releases

a side Hail the king labelJah Free is one of these producers, who don’t let us forget about them and at least once a year give us some great music. And so it is with 12” “Hail The King”, which was released at the end of 2015 and it is the essence of Jah Free’s style – a heavy, meditative tune w brilliant horns by Ital Horns and hypnotic vocal of Jah Free, who sends his thankfulness to the Almighty. Additionally we get a version with a frequent guest of Jah Free’s productions – I-Mitri; also two instrumental versions are present – one with melodica and a pure riddim.

The second release was issued by Italian label/sound system Bababoom Hi-Fi and it is 7” “We are the ones”. This tune was originally included on Jah Free LP “Unity” from 2003 with guest appearance of Matt Abyssinian, but still in 2015 it kicks well and does not lose the power. After such musical feast all I can do is waiting for Jah Free in session.

From roots to digital bass vibes – Mungo’s Hi-Fi

From roots to digital bass vibes – Mungo’s Hi-Fi

These 4 records, released at the end of 2015, come in a different flavour. Two of them came out in Scotch Bonnet label and they proof Mungo’s love to classic rub-a-dub. They recorded Johnny’s Osbourne hit “Ice Cream Love” with Johnny himself but also with Prince Fatty’s live band. This name is for me synonymous with beautiful sound and so it is with this one – the riddim sounds warm and rootical with a little bit of modern flavour. On the second version Johnny’s voice is paired with excellent vocal of YT.

Two next 12” releases came out in Scrub A Dub label and brings digital deep vibes.  Here Mungo’s invited dubstep master from Croatia – Egoless and Vital Techniques & Mickey B, who remixed Squarewave’s “Police officer” and Mungo’s Hi-Fi and YT – “Boomsound”. These killer bangers will satisfy all lovers of modern bass music!

Alpha Steppa – “Rooted & Grounded “

Alpha Steppa – “Rooted & Grounded “

alpha steppaWhen I first saw the info about this album I thought – it’s gonna be really good. Why? Because all the previous releases of Alpha Steppa were introducing me into this feeling, especially the last LP by Dub Dynasty. “Rooted & Grounded” is Ben’s first full solo album and it did it well. After the first sounds of “Catharsis” with Chazbo I had a feeling of vibe, which I know from many sound system sessions. The title “Rooted” for the first part is very accurate, because it has this beautiful rootical flavour – just check “Mix Up Fix Up” with Prince Jamo or “Teachings” with Sis Awa, so nice sound! Yet still you can hear Alpha Steppa’s unique flavour – hypnotizing basslines and a lot of musical inspirations, especially these coming from East. Also one of the best musical discoveries of this album is – for me – the singing of I-Sarana in “The River”, so majestic and magic in conjuction with the powerful riddim with massive horns section! There are also many other interesting artists invited to this album: Cologne, Cyp, Kiangana, Ras Tinny, Wellette Seyon (beautiful “In The City”!).

Now, let’s go forward to the dub versions on the “Grounded” vinyl. Here the bass and the rhythm come to the foreground. These tunes, which on the “Rooted” sounded so rootically and melodically, here are moved to a wild, raw dub killers with resonating bass and effects flying around your head. They are perfect illustration what the dub is, what can you do with the vibe of a tune when you know how to use all the sound and musical expression tools, all the dub techniques.

An excellent album, for loud and perceptive hearing from the beginning to the end.

And looking forward for Dub Dynasty’ next album, scheduled for this Spring!

Mahom Dub – Skankin Session #1

Mahom Dub – Skankin Session #1

7203897Mahom Dub is a crew outta France, which released couple of records and 3 full albums on ODG netlabel and now they are becoming recognizable. Presented 12″ include 2 different tunes with 2 dub versions. The A side is solid meditative dub with ruff bass, sweet melodica and also vocal of Spelim (Paiaka Band). Second version of this one is in Nyahbinghi style with original vibration. On the flip side you will find beautiful sounds of Black Voices which will make you melt away like ice cream on a hot summer afternoon, of course all layed on a heavy bass riddim with great melodies. This one is definitely worthy to check!
