Mungos Hi Fi & Soom T – “Listening Bug”

Mungos Hi Fi & Soom T – “Listening Bug”

SCRUB008_Front_500

That’s right – for the next time that duet wants conquest the dance floors. Mungos Hi Fi team up with Soom T again – the Scots are responsible for cosmic sounds in their own reggae-dubstep mixture style and Soom T extols the whole thing with her chatting. The EP contains 4 tracks, the eponymous “Listening Bug” is a dark, electronic beat with a mighty bass and Soom T’s toasting that could be listened without an end. The next track with sample of Eek A Mouse introduces to a very good musical mood. The last two tracks “War song” and “Run fool” are already classics, well known to people familiar with their creations. To sum up – a bomb for the summer!!!

By the way, it’s worth to mention that Dreadsquad has been released on a 7″ by Mungos Hi Fi label. It’s a tune that had to be a response to a Skirlexx & Damian Marley “Make It Bun Dem” remix contest. The version available at the vinyl contains Everton Chamber’s vocals. Big up and low bows to Marek!!!

Makiko – “High Stepper”

Makiko – “High Stepper”

2673001-AThe Japanese have discovered dub a long time ago, giving us a lot of it on a high level. It’s enough to mention Audio Active, Dry&Heavy, Mighty Massa, Shandi-I, Shaggy Tojo, Killa Sista and the heart beats faster on the thought of their music. Unfortunately the last group doesn’t exist anymore, but one of the girls is active on the dub scene. I’m talking about Makiko, who played keys and melodica in Killa Sista. Now she is using her talent to create her own music. She also plays as a guest in i.a. Chabzo or on Jah Tubbys releases. Her newest production was released on 176sound label, about which we will surely hear more. “High Stepper”, which is the name of tune made by Makiko, is a hard steppers with an amazing melodica, which conquered the whole song. The dub version is a killer that rolls like a heavy train without slowing down for a second. Japanese dub still messes with our heads pretty decently.

Subactive feat. Mikey Murka

Subactive feat. Mikey Murka

CR7001 - BannerCubiculo Records presented to us their newest 7″, where Subactive from France meets a reggae veteran Mikey Murka. Subactive arised in 2010 in Strasburg and focused lovers of hard skank and heavy bass, basing on modern productions with an influence of digital reggae of 80’s. As for their releases they made i.a. remix of Dreadsquad and a greatly appreciated album “Frontline” in Scotch Bonnet label. They also organise “Dub Soundz” cycle in Strasburg, which has been visited by OBF, Stand High, Mungo’s Hifi, Kenny Knots, Vibronics, Disrupt, Riddim Tuffa, El Fata, Dawa Hifi, The Dub Machinist, Weeding Dub or IIdren Reality. As for the album – Mikey is slowly getting the status of a living legend. He started with Unity Sound, where he was singing alongside Kenny Knotts, Errol Bellot, Selah Collins, Rich Davis, Peter Bouncer, Demon Rocker, he also appeared by the side of Coxsone or Saxon. The single brings back creations of Jahtari, but it’s distinguished by heavy, pulsating bass and a great toasting by Mikey. It’s a record for digital sounds lovers, but fans of heavy, low tones won’t be disappointed.

PS. Dub version with atari sounds – champion!!!

Jah Free – “Rasta in the heart”

Jah Free – “Rasta in the heart”

R.I.T.H Back tray outerWho doesn’t know Jah Free? Kindly old man who creates tunes with such a power and message that he has already become an icon of dub music all over the world. It’s hard to believe that he released only 3rd LP. Of course he made a lot of singles, but it’s been 9 years since his last longplay. Someone could say that he isn’t able to surprise us – if you think like that I recommend you to listen to his new album, it’s 18 tunes send the listener into musical trip alongside Suster Simiah and Dan-I, Idren Natural, Steeley Roundbeat, Dawa Hi-Fi, Tiquor Humble as guests. The whole album – 9 tunes and 9 dub versions so far could be heard only on his gigs. Sista’s vocals ideally fit in heavy Jah Free rhythms, no wonder that they cooperate since 1996. As for the other tunes which amaze: “Rastafarai vibes” reminds Alpha&Omega a bit, maybe because I still remember Dub Dynasty (beautiful event by the way), “Ethiopian people” (what a melodica!!!), “The shepherd” – a traditional roller by Jah Free, “Foundation” – another “murder tune”, “In Jah Kingdom” – dub version smashes, and “Rasta chanta” is the best crowning of this wondrous album. Getting back to Sista Simiah – she has a beautiful voice and she uses it to spread a very valuable, conscious message. I recommend “Rasta in the heart” to every dubhead, who knows or just met that strong player, which is Jah Free. In the end it’s worth to quote words from the album: ‘it dont matter who you be, or where ya from, what you wear or if you comb’, what matters is if you are a ‘RASTA IN THE HEART’.

Sista Sherin – “Guiding Star”

Sista Sherin – “Guiding Star”

AI-CD01_GuidingStar_Banner-960-360

In the dub scene women are in minority – what a pity. Sista Sherin shows us on her album how the female voice pulls together with roots and dub music. You can ask who Sista Sherin is – she acts on German scene for ten years and records her tunes for Debter and Jah Free. She has often shown up with selectors – Shalamanda sound system (Austria), Jah Vibes (Germany), Jah Roots Hi-Fi (Switzerland) and many more. In her lyrics she spreads spiritual Rastafari message and the idea of spiritual revive carried by reggae music. Dub Soljah, known from Cultural Warriors Sound System (1998-2012), is responsible for the musical side of the album. He comes from Genewa, where he creates rhythms and mad remixes in UPfront Studio. The album itself, as the artist say, is a fruit of a mutual intensive amusement and work, as an effect of which they created 9 songs with Sista’s vocals and 9 dub versions. In the future they want to promote their work as Art’Ital Duet (Dub Soljah & Sista Sherin), and they want other vocalists to join them in collaborative gigs. During the production process Dub Soljah has been supported by Russ Disciples, Upfront Family, Kris Kemist, BackIIRoots and Rock Radio Hermes. My favourite tracks from the album are “Guiding Star” with a very good riddim called Disciples and “Sound System Rise”. The whole album is a shot of positive energy in roots and dub sauce and additionaly, or maybe above all, very pleasant, soft voice of Sista Sherin – without doubt Christine Miller has a great follower.

Stand High Patrol – “Unemployed”

Stand High Patrol – “Unemployed”

Unemployed-SHP-2013The French aren’t slowing down and please us with 7″ record, which is a tribute to Channel One label. You can hear it right from the beginning – the sounds are swinging in digital, roots style and Pupajim magnetizes with his voice. On the second side of the record there is an instrumental version – I secretly hope that many of vocalists will make a good use of this wonderful riddim. Remember – for a lot of people the previous year were ruled by Stand High Patrol and it seems that the current one could be theirs too.

Indidginus – “Ruff Tuff”

Indidginus – “Ruff Tuff”

Indidginus_-_Ruff_Tuff_EP_(HCR031)We don’t present dubstep music on this website too often, and if it happens it is dubstep strongly influenced by reggae. It’s the same this time – Indidginus “Ruff Tuff” EP is an explosive mixture of drum’n’bass, dubstep and ragga spiced up with heavy, deep bass. Indidginus is a part of the scene since 1996 as a dj and producer. His gigs are lead in a way that pleases the listeners in 100% and makes them scream for more. Check out what he produced – tunes “Follow We” or “Wikkid and Wild” are pretending to be heave sound system killers, the two other tunes are on a high level too.

BR10-2A_DIscoCover_AsideTo, że we Włoszech dub ma się dobrze, to już wiemy. A teraz mamy kolejny dowód na tą tezę. Tym razem porządne granie pokazuje nam Pressure Dub Sound, który zainspirowany takimi twórcami jak Mad Professor, Zion Train i Iration Steppas postanowił przenieść live dub na grunt włoski. Zespół tworzą gracze znani szerszej publiczności we Włoszech, my w Polsce  możemy kojarzyć wokalistę MrDill Lion Warriah m.in z wydawnictw netlabelowych (http://www.4weed.net). Na swoim koncie mają już jedno wydawnictwo wydane w Bassline Records w 2012 roku z dwoma kawałkami “I love Jah” oraz “Babilonia” oparty na klasyku “Blood Dunza”. Płyta ta szybko stało się najlepiej sprzedawaną w rankingu ErnieB (www.ebreggae.com), one of the most well-known distributors of reggae music on worldwide network">www.ebreggae.com).
